It doesn't have to mean something like an illness either, we all know people thank G-d for everything from hitting home runs to passing exams to making it through a plane flight. So would you rather believe that you had divine help or that you had the strength on your own.

Right now is a difficult time for me, I have surgery scheduled on the 17 th and all the pre op tests and clearance from my Dr have been worked on. The Hosp just called to let me know that surgery will be on the 17th and gave me some instructions. Then the Surgeon' nurse calls to tell me that if the clearance and the culture does not arrive tomorrow the surgery will be cancelled. I follow directions but nothing seems to go right. I am praying and asking God for help, so that this will be resolved tomorow according to God's will. Divine help is what I depend on after I have done what needs to be done by me. Now I am giving thanks and praising God for the right outworking tomorrow

If I got through something on my own, I believe it was because I had divine help. So sorry, I can't answer that.

and then jesus turned to me and said "It was at those parts of your life that I was carrying you."

just kidding. Yeah people are too willing to look at things in life and attribute it to god with out realizing the irrationality of their presumptions

We do what we can for ourselves; He does for us that which we can not do for ourselves.

On the really important things ... we know we can NOT work our way to Heaven; He has done for us that which we can not do for ourselves.
