Your wife may be enamoured of the American concept of the "First Lady", which is one I totally disapprove of and which has no basis in Scripture. Well, she can dismiss that idea. The role of the vicar's wife is to be a support to her husband in what is, when taken seriously, a very stressful job. She is to be a role model to other women and therefore it is important for her to behave correctly at all times. As the vicarage is a place which is much visited by members of the congregation and others, she has to keep it presentable and have an area where visitors can always be received, whatever else might be going on behind the scenes. She must be warm and hospitable and take a personal interest in members of the congregation. She will be expected to visit the sick and housebound. She must be prepared to take the lead in some things, so must have leadership skills. She should also try to develop her organisational skills, as many tasks may fall upon her, like it or not, and also the art of delegation, so that she is not overwhelmed by such tasks. If your wife is a Christian, then she will be aware of what her spiritual gifts are and those she must use to the full, while encouraging others to find and use theirs. Every blessing to you both.

Your wife is not being ordained, you are. Her vocation if first and foremost to fulfill her potiential,as given by God. That is for her to work out.
Your marriage will change, and I urge you to be sensitive to the pressures she will be under, living in the vicarage is not easy.
Speaking from experience, I strongly suggest you encourage her to have a life of her own, ( and you too, in your time off) otherwise you may both end up being totally eaten up by the parish. I am sure she will want to support you, but again, go easy on getting too involved. It can go horribly pair shaped if the parish think she is doing too much and running everything. Don'r underestimate either the fact that the British do to some extent resent Americans and will judge you both the moment you open your mouth. This may be very unfair, but it is true.

Wives do minor Parish duties. Possibly flower rota for Church, perhaps the Ladies group coffee mornings. Generally nothing official, but plenty of `helping hand` activity. What is happening to the C of E? Americans and Pentecostalists! That rules out the traditional Cricket and Beer Vicar. I imagine freemasonry is still compulsory ?

The vicar's wife has to be an important member of the Mother's Union.
Because that's where the real power lies.

Vicar's wife's role is to look homely, make mince pies and coffee, and support her husband by never, ever being naughty.
