I'm an passionate animal lover in general, but in the ongoing war between cats and dogs, I'm siding with dogs.
From my own experience, in general the dogs have been friendly, accepting, playfully persistent, and cuddly. The cats have been reluctant, unpredictably aggressive (I have had quite a few cat scratches and bites in my day), and only came to me when they wanted something, i.e. they wanted something to rub their back against.
I just think cats are much more distant and defiant. I've heard people say that's because they're more intelligent than dogs. I just think that dogs can be just as intelligent, but use it to a different effect. Bottom line: Dogs want to love and be loved. Cats just want to be loved. If you want some kind of doll to pamper, get a cat. If you want a loving friend who is thrilled just to be in your company, get a dog.

I once was a cat person and the become seriously allergic against cat hair. So I had no animal. I disliked dogs at that time.
Then I met this wonderful man and he had a puppy. Turns out this puppy became the best dog in the world and I started to understand, love and respect dogs - because I met this one exceptional dog. He is everything, a good friend, a protective guard, playful, cute, ready to cuddle. Very smart. And best of all - always happy. He gets sooooo excited and happy about the smallest things, he has mastered the art of life and I am learning from him.
Now I am a dog lover :-)

I am a cat person and the reason being is that they are fully independent. Dogs are to needy. They need to be walked, washed and fed on time. Cats go where they want to go, they wash themselves and if they are not fed on time and what to eat they will go hunting to get it. Dogs bark loudly while cats are more mellow. Dogs smell and cat only smell if they use a litter box. If I took it one step forward I only like manix(?) cats as well, they are cats with no tail. They have a better disposition then most cats. Very friendly and loving, not so stuck up like some cats with tails. This is probably more then you asked for.

Dog person because dogs have owners and cats have employees. I only work for myself.
Actually, no cat could ever greet me with the joy and happiness my dogs do. They miss me as much or more than I miss them. They are the bright shining stars in my life.

Dog person, just the companionship and loyalty.
I do have a rent a cat outside, he is good to pet and feed but not much for being loyal as he goes off during the night to stay w/his real family.

Dog person,
Cats are useless. For all those that say dogs are too needy, why bother getting a pet at all if you don't want to take care of one?

I have to say I am both, I find enjoyment in both. Cats seemed to have it made though, most come and go as they please. You spoil them when they actually let you show them attention, and when they are naughty you excuse it with instinct or their feisty personality. Dogs on the other hand are held responsible for their actions, often tied up, and made to be obedient. Then the blame for their disobedience is put on the owner. But my cat doesn't give hugs like my Daisy Doodle does.

I'm a little of both, I like how cats are affectionate, and i love how dogs are so playful, If i had to chose, i would choose a dog, more likely to have your back, and it's pretty fun to teach them some new things.
