I want to ask if your dog is neutered, but I can't really ask you LOL!
Dogs will "hump" pillows, stuff animals, other dogs, etc. I have a seven year old male that humps everything.
No, I don't believe the one dog will ever realize that the other dog is male and stop humping him.
I used to raise boxers for years. I've always had a dog. I honestly can tell you that does that hump.. just hump.. and they will hump anyone and anything.. sorry!

It's not about knowing the difference between sexes for dogs. It's about asserting dominance.
"Humping" is a dominant behavior that one dog will use to show another dog "who's boss." It has nothing to do with human sexuality (which is why people ask whether dogs are gay when they hump dogs of the same sex) and nothing to do with a natural heirarchy (like the younger dog humping the older dog when it would seem to humans that the older dog would naturally be "the boss").
Your younger dog is reaching the peak of his adolescence. If he isnt neutered yet, it may or may not change his behavior. Usually to avoid those types of behaviors it is helpful to have dogs neutered before they reach this stage.
That said, if he already is neutered, the behavior may or may not change as he grows out of adolescence and into adult-dog-hood.
The best thing you can do is ignore him. Dogs have to naturally work out the order of the pack in their own way. Continue to boss them both around (because as the human, you are supposed to be the Alpha-dog) and they'll work it out. I suspect that if the daddy dog gets tired of it, he'll let his son know. Until then, as in the wild, they're establishing the order of their relationship, and you really don't have to worry about curtailing it unless your dog starts humping people. That's a whole 'nother question.

When dogs hump other dogs, it's not always about sex. They do it to establish dominance between members of the pack. The one year old male dog is challenging the other dog for dominance. Over time, they should work their differences out. Either the older dog will accept the younger dog's higher position in the pack, or the older dog will start fighting the younger dog when he does it. There are two schools of thought on this: One is to let them work it out, and the other is to step in and break it up. Just put one dog outside when he starts to hump, and theoretically, eventually they will learn to stop. Just remember that there's nothing sexual about it; they are just trying to work out dominance issues.
Hope this helps!

Are either or both of them neutered? If not, that can help.
Humping is a sign of dominance. My spayed female dogs occasionally do this to each other. Its an animal thing.
Use a firm no when he does it, try using a spay bottle with water too.
Good luck!

In someways it is the hormones and in other ways it is the younger dog trying to dominate the older dog. Very common. If you were to put a female in front of him and she was in season....he would definatly not be confused!

You can search on google for them actually, but i know a couple of sites that give you fairly good recipes. They're not the recipes for greenies or nylabones though. Try: http://www.stretcher.com/stories/03/03feb17a.cfm and http://spoiled-mutts.com/dogfoodrecipe4.html
