You shouldn't ever train a dog to be "nasty". It's not safe for anyone and is probably, for lack of a better term, the stupidest thing a person could do if they have a family, especially with young children. (I'm sorry if that sounds harsh but...)Getting a bully breed to be a protection dog is an alright idea. You're right that you'd need to train it. And it would take a lot of time and effort to do so.
However, with a six month old child, and a special needs three year old it would be a dangerous gamble to leave them alone together. Whenever there are dogs and children they must be supervised. No if ands or buts. You have no idea what would set the dog off. Something the child does may surprise the dog and set him into defence mode of him/her self. Or it may be something else, some way that you or a relative react to the children or act around them. Something that the pup will see as threatening to its pack mates (the children) and will defend them according to how he/she guages the situation.
The dog will defend the family to the death, but with children of that age do you realistically have time to raise two kids, and train the dog? And keep cost in mind. Training isn't cheep and if it is, the trainer's probably not reputable.
It is a hard choice, but having a "guard" dog with children isn't always a good idea. Try with a softer breed, lab's or retreivers, even boxers or rotties. They will learn to defend the family if it comes down to it, but I still wouldn't be leaving any dog alone with children. It's not safe for either party.
Hope this helps, good luck,
~Manda

Oh and by the way if you're leaving your children alone for more than 10-15 minutes it is considered child abandonment. And is punishable with criminal offences. Just a tip.

are you mad????
of course this is not safe, you would have social services knocking on your door because your children would be in danger, and quite rightly so.
Do you not read the papers, or watch tv, over the summer there has been a young baby [only a couple of months old] killed by dogs several children were badly mauled and almost killed.
It is almost like serving up the children on dinner plates, no matter how well trained a dog is you do not leave them alone with young children for any length of time.

I hope that you change your mind about training a "nasty" dog for the sake of your children.
I can understand you wanting to protect your property, but not at the potential risk to your children.
Remember you can replace material possessions but not your children.

People like you are sick in the head, you dont get a dog to teach it to be nasty. You get a dog because you want a pet!

Oh NO to the answer about will it be safe to leave with a baby, but then again common sense tells you that.

If you met a dog that bit your children out on the street, i expect you would want the dog put down! But, on the other hand you dont mind being cruel to your dog to make it bit.

You are going to spend about a thousand pound on a dog and you want to teach it bad habbits. You should leave a dog on its own let along your children, 4 hours is a long time, you should be reported to the rspca and the nspcc!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Why do pricks post questions like this. Obviously this is a joke. A Bull Terrier is not generally aggressive towards people but it can be. The easiest thing to do is make it aggressive towards other dogs as they love to fight.

My EBT is great around my 7mth old but she hates strange dogs. Fine with the other dog she lives with, however.

Obviously you can't leave a 6mth old or even a 3 year old alone for that length of time, be it with a dog or not. Can you send me your address so i can contact social services and get your kids put in care.

Cheers.

you obviously dont know much about dogs.it isn't in an english bull terriers nature to be aggresive i used to own one and she was a soft old thing.you should NEVER leave children and dogs together unsupervised your dog could turn any minute on your child and do some series damage then how would you feel?most dogs will bark at the door to warn you of intruders why do you feel you want to train a dog to be aggresive which proberly wouldn't be safe around your children anyway

ok....haha....we all get it your an idiot......you got everybody all upset....are you proud of yourself?....you have enough on your hands you dont need a dog.......especially a bully breed....I know this question is a joke because NOBODY is dumb enough to think leaving kids in a room alone with a dog is ok....I dont care what breed the dog is.....as far as making the dog mean ,I hope you never own a dog if this is how you want it to react....dogs will protect their families and homes without it being nasty......for the person that made the comment a bull terrier is a pitbull,YOU ARE WRONG!!! these are two different breeds.....

some poeple are just too stupid for words arent they? if you want a guard dog fair enough get a guard dog but dont get a dog and train ti to be nasty and expect it not to turn on your kids cos that just wont happen, one day youll come back and find its mauled them. if you want a dog thats naturaly protective and has the liiks but not necessarily the temprement to attack then a shar pei is good for that, the one i had was all bark but no bite...tho saying that as people have said theres always the risk any dog be it a spaniel or a rotweiler could turn at the drop of a hat

OK so you want a dog that's safe around children but aggressive otherwise.
i think you need to have a serious think about whats more important, the kids or the need for an aggressive dog.
I'm really not sure you can have both.
don't go for the terrier type as they get a thing called lock jaw which means they lock their jaw onto anything they bite (child or burgler) and is hard to release.
why not go for a type of dog with a big bark and apperance of an aggrassive dog that is big enough to mean business just by it's stance to detter tresspassers/burglers etc but is also family oriented such as the doberman, german sheppard or rottweiller.

You actually want to train a dog to be nasty, but then ask if a nasty dog can be left around your young and disabled children??? You then say that you'll be leaving these defenceless children and this nasty dog alone for 3-4 hours at a time??? HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND????

I think someone should "train" the authories on you!
