Intolerance is generally bread from proselytizing religions. Since these religions require their members to convert others, they have to take that stance that not only are they right, but everyone else is wrong. You can't really convert someone by saying "This is what I think, but you may be right too" or "There may be more than one right way to heaven (reincarnation, whatever)." I mean, no one would join. You have to be persuasive. A lot of intolerance from other, no proselytizing religions, is the result of years of conflict with other religions. Just because a religion is non proselytizing does not mean that they want to be told that they are wrong all the time.

Religion should be a personal commitment that works for each person. Religion typically has some form of self-denial of gratification...a lack of a better phrase "An Avoidance of Sin". Zealots are not comfortable enough with their own self-sacrifice for their religion and are constantly in the mode of fear mongering to convert people to their belief structure so they can feel better about their own personal sacrifice. Misery loves company.
This typically leads to intolerance and thus creates concepts such as hell, where if you don't believe in my theory of the afterlife, you will go to the worst place imaginable. This type of thinking reduces the value of life, where only like minded people...are the good ones. And everyone else are subhuman and deserves death, damnation, yaddya yaddya yaddya...

I am a christian but I am not intolerant because my family is of mixed religion marriage. I was givin a choice a long time ago and this is how I chose. However a lot of christians are very intolerant because thats it, it is final for them. In the bible it say you must worship god and only him or else. So I think they might be scared to even think about other religions, ect.

First off, as a Christian, I should never tolerate something that isn't true or doesn't lead ppl to heaven. Since Islam has no way of removing sins, it can't get you into heaven, and so is wrong. Being intolerant of something that's incorrect isn't wrong, it means that there's a truth out there that those ppl need to understand. Only one belief can be right. If Christianity is it, then, by default, everything else is wrong bc Christ becomes the only way to remove sin. Since Christianity is right bc Jesus died and rose again, then everything else is wrong. It's not intolerance, it's logic.

r u intolerant of christians and muslims? come one-that is an obvious and flase stereotype-some people do fit the stereotype, but most do not-including myself-i have muslim friends and im a christian-i also have hindu friends. not everyone is like terrorists-there a lot in the east-but it is definiately not the majority. one person cant believe all religions-you gotta pick one and reject the others. its like being pro-abortion and yet pro-life-u cant do both-and theyre intolerant of each other. some intoleraances r not a bad thing. its called discipline.

this is just a point of view but it may help answer the Question to you .
to me by definition when one declares a religion and says this is my religion and its better then yours . as soon as that is said a certain alienation starts . any ( not just Christian and Muslims and Jews ( Abrahamic religions ) ) Organized religion, when it starts to exercise power over a domain does not want to yield that to a challenger hence is intolerant of others expanding their roles . also followers tend to believe themselves to be more enlightened then the barbarians ( which incidently actually referes to the people of berber region ) and tries to enlighten them sometimes by force .
incidently Most states tend to try to limit the influence of religions as well ! ( unless the religion is the state religion )
BTW : South Park reeks of intolerance !!

So you mean, why is religion intolerant of itself? Ok, makes more sense in this phrasing, right. Too many interpretations of a good thing, turn brother against brother.

I'm intolerant - in love. That might be hard for you to understand, but thats the way it is w/ me. I don't condemn people (b/c thats not my place, I'm not God), and I certainly don't get in people's faces to tell them off. But I am intolerant of some - well, actually many - things. The difference is, I tell people that what they do is wrong, w/ love, not w/ hate. I tell people when they are making a mistake BECAUSE I love them. Its not about hate at all.

Tolerance is what keeps me sane. But I don't have to accept what others accept as truth. And if I am a Christian than I know that the truth is blatantly against any other religions. That isn't intolerance.

i think of it extra often than not stems from defensiveness and lack of expertise. We (Christians) are used to being bashed, too, so some Christians improve into very protecting approximately what they suspect. maximum Christians additionally are not conscious of the origins or ideals of Islam or different "far away" religions, so as that they spout off approximately issues they do no longer understand. additionally, a number of it stems from racism or lost anger (many "Christians" in u.s. view Islam by way of fact the religion of terrorists, and consequently, it impacts how they respond to those people... it would be reported that those "Christians" are not residing in a manner that shows love for all mankind, that's what we've faith is one in all the two superb commandments we are meant to maintain on with, so as that they are actually not rather representative of the Christian faith in any respect). some people, myself blanketed, understand no longer something a pair of lot of religions, no longer by way of fact we don't care to benefit, yet by way of fact it is not that straightforward to get an understand-how individual to respond to our questions approximately what they suspect. yet a minimum of we many times do no longer declare to renowned approximately it.
