I had an account that was charged off on 2001. Is there any way to have this account reflected as charged off in 01 because the company is still reporting the charge off currently. When I call and ask about it, no one has any information for me to even try and settle it. What canI do?

If this account truly belongs to you and went into collections, & became a charge off, there is absolutely nothing you can do, even if you paid them off, this will remain on your credit report for 7 years.

if you cannot find any to call to settle the debt then go to myfico.com
and look up your credit report. Myfico.com has an option for $5.95 where they will have a form to help you file a complaint. I would suggest filing a complaint that the account was not yours. The reason I say do this is because then the creditor will usually contact you to settle this debt and you will have the proper info you need to settle this. If they don't contact you back then the credit bureau will remove this off your report if the agaency that charged your debt off doesn't respond.

I disputed alot of things on my husbands report even though I knew they were true only because I didn't know who to contact to pay the debt off. So after disputing the debt, within two weeks the creditors called us and asked for payments.

It will stay on your report for 7 years and 180 days since the charge off was first reported.

Things generally stay on your credit for 7-10 years depending. this chargeoff, if it is erroneous, or incorrect, should come off with not problem. You can contact a local credit repair agency or a lawyer to see about the process.

You have to settle it with the creditor. Go to equifax to get a full look at your credit score/report.

The only thing you can do is pay the balance the Company charged-off (and quite frankly, that is fair).

Dispute it. If they can't verify it ,it will be removed. If they can verify it maybe they will change date. It will go off in 08 regardless, or it should. Go to creditboards.com. They are really informative! Do not pay it as it will reset the SOL timeframe for them to sue.

a charge off means you didn't pay the debt. Call the creditor directly to see how to resolve it.
