Will, it self has no purpose, until the two words GOOD and Bad or added. I myself was not raised to believe that, God is threatening in anyway. Only warns that free will, doesn't mean that the commandments are invalid. When you walk this world without knowing who created all things. It's going to be a journey beyond! We all sin, it's human nature. ( Adam and Eve) Not saying it is accepted by God, but he is forgiving!

well im not exactley sure what the question is but for one the holy bible says that salvation is the only way to heaven not good deeds and secondly people can chose the way that they act and if they want to live a sinful life or a rewarding life. All of the sinful people on tv oviousley arnt christians or maybe its that they have been having a hard time with giving up sins because satin gives so many oppertunites to sin. God doesnt allow the sin on tv to happen its the people that make the choice and probley arnt religiouse.

I am nonreligious and I don't lead a sinful life.....I think religion is a choice, just like everything else....some people just need to be reminded or given these type of consequences to bad actions to help them make better choices........one thing that turned me off from religion all together is each one saying the other is going to hell for the way the chose to worship GOD or for what they believe...and like you said the violence that also comes with it.....l agree with what you said good deeds are their own reward.....I think my relationship with God and the way I chose to live my life is enough for me, I do not need a religion to tell me how to make those choices, though I do believe religion can be a wonderful thing for many people

Nope. Whether bombarded with threats of Hell or not, I still wouldn't be "sinful". I do good things because they're the right thing to do and to not do them would mean I hurt somebody. I don't lie because if I lied all the time, I hurt people. I don't steal or kill because doing so hurts somebody. I don't cheat on my husband because doing so would be hurtful to him. Simple as that.
I often don't even expect a "thank you" for things I've done to help others. I know I helped someone and that's enough for me. I don't need a religious text or leader telling me how to be a good person. All I need to know is whether or not something I say or do hurts someone and if it does, I should know enough not to do it.
I also know that I'm imperfect and human, therefore, I also know that I'm going to screw up and hurt someone during the course of my life whether I mean to or not. Knowing that it's going to happen, I also know that the best thing I can do is apologize. A lot of arguements and fights and ill feelings towards one another could easily be stopped if one or both people just apologize and let it go.
So I don't need religion at all to live a good, moral life. Just trying not to hurt people and apologizing when I do works fine to keep me out of trouble.

Religion is a set ideas of worshiping G-D. You don't necessarily need to belong to an organized institution to do good, moral things. Many people choose to do ethical things and they are atheists or agnostics. To me those it's really irrelevant what ones faith is, that their own relationship with G-D. I find it a blessing just to help people and just do onto other as they would do upon to you. The concept of "hell" is a scare factor. If one is doing good deeds just to be "freed" from hell that's crazy. Even more so is the concept of evangelizing in order for others to be free from "hell." The whole concept of hell and damnation is bring more damage to the world with intolerance that benefiting it.

I'm no Hindu, but I believe in Karma!
There's got to be something behind this whole "be good thing", or else atheists would run the streets and shoot down everything in their path!
What comes around goes around. Don't make anyone mad at you for something, and you won't have many problems. Tick off everyone in sight, and go hide in a hole for a while. It's that simple!

Well I have no problem with sin. Gay sex and working on the sabbath would be just fine but those are just not some of my personal choices.
I don't care about sin, but I do not hurt others. All without a majik sky daddy

Religion, at least Christianity, does not "threaten" you with hell. It simply points out the alternative for rejecting Jesus Christ as your Savior. It's your choice! I challenge you to read and STUDY the Bible.

Religion was invented to control violence and sex but lucky for us out of all that mumbo jumbo we somehow learnt how to live spiritual lives. There is the difference.
