I love the look of slate and would love to have it installed on a new concrete driveway but am not sure if it is strong enough to drive on top of. Anyone know if it can be done?

Yes it can be done, But the concrete layer under it must be extremely level and clean. Then you can apply the EXTERIOR tile mastic (Glue) pretty thick (1/4"-1/2" trial) and let it cure before you grout it.
You will have to be careful with the load you put on it. And it will be slippery when wet.
It will also be important to seal the grout and tile so that rain and motor oils will not loosen the mastic.

Slate is very brittle. Vehicles, salt, extreme weather will cause it to crack and flake off. Look what happens to slate roofs, and they are only exposed to weather. Roof shingles are allowed to expand and contract.
Consider using concrete and look for a concrete finishing company that can add color and texture to the surface to make it look like slate.
For safety, walks and driveways should have rough surfaces, so people won't slip and fall.
Removing and replacing broken slates embedded in mortar is difficult.

I do not know the climate of where you live, but I have a tile floor in my garage and it is wonderful. Easy to clean and non-staining. I am sure that you could have it outdoors if the climate is not too prohibitive in respect of freezing/thawing. there are weight considerations as well with lbs/sq. ft. to avoid cracking under pressure.

No slate tile is to fragile to handle the weight of your vehicle, let alone human traffic. sorry

I can be done and last long if you do it right.
Just be sure to seal the driveway after it is tiled and grouted.
You may want to use LARGE tiles, they should last longer than smaller ones.

The slate will not be strong enough & will probably crack under the pressure of your vehicles.
