Yes I have a Tom Tom. I have it set so he talks to me like a butler! It goes WAAHHHHHHHH when you approach a speed camera (even if its in a police car going past)! and most of the bridges on the M25 DONT HAVE THEM!
I think they are fantastic!
Go to Comet/Currys or Argos.

I've got the Blue Media thing 6300 with TMC
http://www.bluemediagps.com/
You should be able to get all the info you need from that site.
However, things to watch for:
1. They crash like a computer. Its a tad annoying when it does that in the middle of no-where.
2. When it crashes, you lose all your speed camera data. But then you shouldn't be speeding anyway, right?
3. I think the only voice on it is female - maybe its changeable. I'd like either Richard Burtons voice, Shaggy or Zsa Zsa Gabour. If you find those let me know!
I've tried the Michelin thing and found it really annoying. I've also hear the Tom Toms aren't that great either.
Basically you have to learn how best to use them as they are all a bit quirky.

1/ have a good look on the web for discounted items.
2/ read the instructions and don't throw them away.
3/never leave the satnav on show when leaving the car.
4/ chose the voice you wish to hear.
5/go enjoy and be prepared for the voice to say, "When possible turn around." Sometimes it is your fault, at others the instructions can come in so late, you have no time to make a turning or whatever.
On your local roads be prepared for the satnav to take you miles out of your usual route by keeping to main roads.
Buy the speed camera thingy. I delayed and it looks to have already cost me £60-00 courtesy of the Tayside police.

think my tomtom is great, its only ever been caught out by a new road build (and that was in spain) and losing the signal at a critical decision point on a roundabout causing me to take the wrong exit. Absolutely priceless if you have no idea where you are venturing, and I love the estimated time of arrival feature also.
My only advice would be that if for any leg of the journey you have a personally preferred route - take it, the satnav will automatically adjust to your route choice and avoid leading you down some single farm track (tho its never happened to me)

Get yourself a Tom Tom. They are by far the best device on the market, known the world over for their accuracy and if you are feeling ultra cheap you can get a mobile phone version that runs on phones with the symbian os. Not only that they come in model with bluetooth support, wired in to the vehicle or fully removable and even a model to use on your motorbike.
By far the best around!!!

tom tom one is your best bet for that price.
although for a small amount extra you could get a better model which is pre loaded with safety camera files, and may have in-built bluetooth for hands free phone use as well!!
