The text in question Psalms 137:9
IS NOT GOD ADVOCATING BABY SMASHING.
The author is warning the soldiers and people of Babylon that when someone smashes their babies is will be justice for what they ALREADY did to the Israelites babies.
From the New International version which is easier to understand
Psalm 197:
7 Remember, O LORD, what the Edomites did
on the day Jerusalem fell.
"Tear it down," they cried,
"tear it down to its foundations!"
8 O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction,
happy is he who repays you
for what you have done to us-
9 he who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks.
To those of you who misquote this text as an excuse to hate God, TAKE NOTICE. You were MISTAKEN as to what the text really was telling you. YOU WERE WRONG. But if you have a hatred in your heart for religion your mind can't open to comprehend it.
One more instance of proof that those who hate God twist the truth to confuse humans just like SATAN did to Adam and Eve.

It is amazing that when you dispel one of the atheists key texts and reveal it to be a twisted lie, they become frantic and throw their whole arsenal at you. Thanks for that bit about the homosexuals, I was wondering where that text was. Now I have some material for my next questions and answers.

God set mankind in a perfect environment and they chose to go another direction. God predicts events without causing them. He was determined from the beginning that man would have free will to choose and He has kept that promise. Sad that non believers use Gods integrity as a jibe against Him.

God is NOT condoning anything here it is the psalmist writing a lament for what may one day happen to the children of Babylon. How can you keep twisting the truth when it is written clearly? Oh never mind I know. Prejudiced thinking. Closed mind.

I'm REALLY going to stick my neck out and say that I believe God intended the bible to a be a bit difficult to understand. He wants mankind to have to study to understand. If the bible was too simple it would be boring. And besides even I confess that King James english is a bit trying you know. That is why I refer to more modern english versions. Rant on people, rant on at least when you are putting God down you are talking about HIM> YEAH!!!!!!!

Thanks for debunking that baby smashing issue.
It strikes me as odd that the God-haters can find none of this negative text to rant about in the new testament.
Wonder why that is?
You suppose its because the ancient world was filled with horrible evil people and God had to be harsh with them because they were downright wicked? Huge armies roamed about, plundering and pillaging everything they found. Maybe God knew things were going to become more civilized (at least for a little while) after Jesus came with the new message.
Gee, Jesus taught turn the other cheek, pray for your enemies. That doesn't sound like a hateful God to me.
Too bad atheists can't come forward to the 21st century.
They accuse Christians of being stuck in the year 1000BC and yet the only part of the bible they care to quote comes from the BC era.
Wonder why that is??
Bile spewing, hatefilled God haters. Sad, so sad.

That psalm is read in my church, and the Early Church Father, John Chrystostom teaches that it is not real babies we are talking about., but an allegory, here is how it goes.......
The babylonians are demons. The children of the babylonians are sinful passions in our own lives. We are happy when these passions, children are destroyed against the rocks, which is the teachings of the church and Christ who is a rock. Kind of stretch, but that is how we see it. Yes, we realize that it was historical, but we still say the Psalm, because we are on this earth, which is not heaven, so as believers were are estranged from God in this present captivity...just like the early Israelites were. Kind of mystical, but that is how we interpret it. It is a happy day when a sinful passion is gone from your life. Because the passions are the enemy our souls.

No I wouldn't believe that God would advocate the smashing of babies.
I like how you have brough that in to context. Because in Egypt when Pharoh sent out the decree to kill all first born Babies they where thrown in to the Nile.
The meaning of the word Babylon is also interesting as I am sure the writer was referring to the City that stood a distance out of their land that God is referring it as the state of some men's hearts. (I am just putting that out their cause I know revelation talks about Babylon, I am pretty sure nobody is planning on calling their cities Babylon)

is this even a severe question? we do not imagine in God, or his holy e book, which--on stability--condones slavery. Why would the onus of slavery be laid on us??? Um no, thinking the actual shown actuality that God isn't available, he did not elect for Africans to develop into enslaved in North u . s ., or everywhere else. Are you skipping a music or some thing?

James I reigned as king of England from 1603 to 1625. He was the son of Mary Queen of Scots, and he had been king of Scotland before succeeding to the English throne at the death of Queen Elizabeth I. He was prompted to produce an English Bible because of the poor and tendentious copies being circulated in England. He feared these could be used by seditious religious and political factions.
His authority was one usurped from the Catholic Church, beginning with his predecessor King Henry VIII. Henry had broken with the Catholic Church and made himself the head of the Church in England, which soon enough became the Church of England. You could say James had no more authority in biblical matters than any head of state, basically none.

The Bible is open to so much interpretation there is no way to find any truth in it at all. When 5 different people read the same book and come to 5 fundamentally different conclusions how can anyone say that that book is all truth.
Not to mention what modern Christians choose to omit... but i digress.

God allows evil things to happen as he did JOB.
JOB was the holiest man in the Old testament.
He was rich due to God blessings and obeying Gods word.
When God and satan made the bet on who Job
would still remain with him(GOD). It was a test
from God. Satan destroyed everything he had,
his children, cattle, and anything else in his way.
But JOB still not curse God and die. After all
was said and done, God multiplied his children,
his cattle, his land, etc. He was richer than he was
before.

God is just and He serves justice to the non faithful.
God served His ultimate justice upon Jesus Christ verses you.
Get over your self.
God is God and you can't change it.
You may whine all you want but you will never change who God is.
You will like so many before whine about not wanting a God that is so "mean".
Get over yourself. Does the clay tell the potter what to do.
Live in the grace of God.
He is bigger then you.
He loves you more than you do.
He lopes all of us more than we can ever know.
Leave the figuring him out stuff alone.
He sent Jesus Christ to take your imperfect life and put it to death so you can live in eternity.
An eternity we can't imagine.
Thanks be to God for his mercy and grace.
