Well, in the book of Revelations, it says, "Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city". Rev 22:14
You could tie that in with the fall of Adam and Eve when they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the Lord sewed fig leaves for coverings for them when they knew they were naked....?

that has got to be a boring story. ... once upon a time there was a leaf, living with a buncha little leaf brethren. they all came from the same place but come fall, this leaf was the first to change color. the other leafs ridiculed this leaf and made fun of it for being different. low and behold all the other leaves began to change too, and they realized that they were no different then he. they eventually fell off from that which they came from, into the ground to become food for the tree again so that more little leafs could come back next year.

The Land Before Time... the little main character, Little Foot was given a "tree star" by his mother in hopes that they would find plant life and survive. The tree star is of course a leaf. He held onto it like it were the Hope Diamond, boy I tell ya. Its a good little story. The forested area was referred to as "The Great Valley." It really all was a metaphor for life, togetherness, perseverance and survival.
(Oh, did I neglect to mention this is a DINOSAUR cartoon? Yeah. That.)
Also try The Giving Tree, a book by the great Shel Silverstein.

In the book, "Bambi" (the real book, by Felix Salton, not the Disney version) there is a short chapter about the last two leaves left on the branch. As I recall, very touching. I may have spelled the author's name wrong, but the book is well worth a read, if you have never done so.

Genesis Chapter 8
6 After forty days Noah opened the window he had made in the ark 7 and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth. 8 Then he sent out a dove to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground. 9 But the dove could find no place to set its feet because there was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Noah in the ark. He reached out his hand and took the dove and brought it back to himself in the ark. 10 He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark. 11 When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.
