The medical term for this is "leukocytosis". It means that his white blood cells are above the normal limit. This cells belong to the immune system (against infections/diseases). It can be caused by infections, leukemias, drugs/medication, vigorous exercise, etc... The best way is to go to the doctor. Hope everything goes well!

Probably a high white cell count, which would either indicate an autoimmune disease, or more likely a recent infection of some kind.
