Bound's hubby here:

First, thank you for identifying upfront that this is a homework assignment!

I believe that any person who is not a convicted felon has the right to possess guns (and ammunition) in their home. I was brought up around guns, and taught a healthy respect for them. I realize many people have not been brought up around guns, and may have a healthy fear of guns ...I respect this.

The decision to possess firearms in the home is a personal decision, plain and simple! A firearm in the home may serve one or many of multiple purposes: recreation (sport shooting), occupation (a tool of one's job), collection (a person's hobby), hunting (putting food on one's table), or defense (protecting one's loved ones and home).

Yes, I know in today's modern society most people do not "need" to hunt. For some, this is not a choice ... it supplements their income or its their choice to have leaner meats that are free of steriods which are not available at your local grocery store!

I know it is an old cliche, but it is coming more to life every day ... when honest people no longer have guns, only criminals will have guns. With the increasing number of home invasions, often being perpetrated by members of the drug culture, a "911" call will not hold them at bay until the police arrive. In today's society, as much as in the past, the individual has a right and obligation to protect themselves and their loved ones!

Good luck!

Yes everyone that can legally own a firearm should own at lest a shot gun, rifle, hand gun and at least 1000 rounds of ammo. Firearm do not cause crime they prevent crime. Everyone in my neighborhood and a LOT of others from outside my neighborhood know if I am outside I have at least 1 firearm on my person. Also I walk my neighborhood at least 3 times a night. In the last 5 years have had very little crime. The only crime we have had in my neighborhood happen on a night that I had been working for 30 hr and went to bed early did not wake up to go for a walk. That night we had 3 arson fires and 2 break in. The blocks that surround my neighborhood have a very high crime rate. In my way of thinking if everyone that can legally carry a handgun was to do so there would be a lot less crime. To keep gun out of the hands of children you must teach them what a firearm is, what it can do, and how to use it.

You bet! The constitution says so. However, having a gun for protection seems silly. We have a myrid of different pistols and rifles in our home. Some are for target shooting and some are for hunting. I have a 9MM that I love to shoot, but it is kept unloaded under lock and key. Same with the other guns in my home. They are all unloaded and in a big combination gun safe. If someone was to break-in and I needed to protect myself, I would have a better chance of my dog eating them then I would to get in the safe, load, aim and shoot! I have two small children and they understand what guns are. My son has toy guns and knows not to aim at a person, but that is because my hubby and I have taught him otherwise. We are big gun fans so say the least -- so my final anwser is YES, people should be able to have guns in their homes if they choose too. Good luck and I hope that you get an A on your assignment!

Absolutely. You can look at Kennesaw, Georgia as an example. They passed a law back in the 1982 that required every head of household to maintain a firearm with ammunition. It has been claimed that this law attributed to an 89% drop in residential burglaries in that city.

As long as you are a law abiding citizen, I think it's your duty to have at least one. As to the question of safety around children, the best protective measure possible is education. Don't hide your guns, it will only make kids more curious. teach them what guns are capable of, what they should be used for, and how to be safe with and around them. Let them shoot and experiance, but make sure they know guns aren't toys and not to touch them without adult supervision

Well Sexy, it is our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. The police can't be everywhere all the time to protect us (that's called a 'police-state').

Yes, law abiding people should have guns for home protection. The right to defend one's person/loved ones/ home is not only guaranteed by the Constitution, it is God given. Opps! Can't mention God in school; okay, it only makes good sense.

Absolutely - Multiple guns for multiple uses. Any gun kept for security reasons needs to be loaded and unlocked - otherwise it's useless. Good luck on the assignment

Yes I do. I believe in gun control and all that stuff but guns were made for protection not for killing people. If you know how to use a gun and how to safely store them thye are a great thing to have around a home just in case someone was to break in.

As long as the guns are properly stored when not in use, used legally, and properly maintained and cleaned for safety and reliability purposes, anyone that wants to shoot or collect should be allowed to possess firearms.

Yes. It is the right of the people to have firearms. As long as children are taught firearm safety, and the firearms are stored in the proper way and the proper place, there is no harm in having them in the home.
