My girlfriend and I have, for the past couple of years, been exchanging hampers with my folks at Christmas. Each year, the contents of the hampers have a theme. So far, we've had Italian food, things beginning with the letter 'C', and organic food. We're looking for something different (and preferably obscure!) for this year's hamper.

Everything has to be readily available, and can't be perishable (it's going to sit under a Christmas tree for a couple of weeks...)

Thanks for the help.

Hmm... that's a great idea. How about foods that cook in 30 minutes or less? Things that go with Beef (or chicken, pork, etc). Late-night snack foods. Heart-healthy foods (or diabetic-friendly, low carb, low fat, etc)...

Just a few ideas off the top of my head.

Uk and Eire- one celebrating British and Irish foods. Around the British Isles- devon fudge, scotch shortbread, Cheddar cheeses etc. The list is endless.

May not be so unique, but everything will no doubt get eaten.

Or an Organic food hamper- eco friendly one.

Well, one possibility would be trying a different countries food, Polish Christas food is wonderful and depending on where you live you might be able to get some.
Germans have lovely sweets and cookies for Christmas. Or Japanese food, they make sweets out of potatos and beans (forgot how it's called, sorry).
Maybe you can choose things made of one specific ingredient? Things with cinnamon or things made of potatos, etc.
Good luck!

Go carribean. Spices, tins of coconut milk, and a real one, dried exotic fruits, a recipe book, Jars and tins of preserved vegetables.
Look on the "foods of the world" section in the big supermarkets.
Loads to chose from nowdays.

If you have lots of £, go to Harrods Food Hall or Fortnum and Mason for THE best choices.

Mexican (chips, different kinds of salsas or sauces, mexican chocolate, chilis, mexican seasonings, etc) Chinese (rice, plum sauce, fish sauce, sesame seeds, 5 spice, etc), Indian (couscous, curry paste or powder, etc), Survivor (rice, beans, coconut milk, etc), Pizza basket (pizza stone, sauce, cutter, packaged dough mix, spices, rolling pin). Don't foget to include themed napkins, beer, wine, coffee, tea, or some other favorite beverage (some places nowadays can personalize labels for you). Maybe a bottle opener, stopper or other utensil that might go with that theme.

How bout a rock star hamper? You could fill it with pills and whiskey, m&m's with all the brown ones removed, bat heads, stuff like that.

Oooo, or maybe a hippie hamper (dig the illiteration) with granola, ummmm, more granola.....

A baby basket? Baby snow peas, baby carrots, babyback ribs...

Maybe foods that have something about their packaging in common? Like, all come in blue containers/cans/boxes. Or all have animals on the label...
Ethnic samplers are always pretty neat, too.
