O-K. Why then do i have to buy licenses for my dogs, just to run an ad in the paper. To sell pups that are not showable but great compaions. All my dogs are current on shots and they are chipped. I had the news paper lady tell me that showing dogs and having a website is considered a BUSSINESS. Since when did that happened,Why don't the show people have bussiness licensees.

BethAnn, You are sure getting flack from people who don't know you, or your circumstances. I am afraid there are many judgemental people on this forum, that are quick to make rash comments when they don't know or ask the circumstances. You can add to your questions, if you click the little edit icon, and explain or refute, if you so choose...
but, to address the question..it sounds like you are in an area that has breeding moratorium or bans...Potential adopting homes are feeling the crunch as well, so you can post your ad in an adjacent county, which doesn't have the same requirements..the adoptive families will be reading it....You might even offer, or insist on delivery, so that you have the opportunity to do a home check before leaving your puppy with strangers..
Not every pup in every litter can enter the ring..The ring not only requires the proper conformation, which a good breeder's dogs will have, but also an elusive 'show' sparkle, or charisma, that a breeder can not expect all pups to have..So, there is sometimes a need to place good dogs in good homes..So, just advertise over the county border..

Maybe because you are a BYB. Why are you breeding dogs that aren't "showable"??? Isn't the purpose of breeding to IMPROVE a breed??????
See, I don't put an AD in the PAPER!!!! BYB do that. I have a LIST of people that have contacted ME. I do not seek them out through the local classifieds.
THAT is the difference. You ARE a business!!!!!!!

Hey, Chetco..I am glad that you are all for BYB. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that is what this situation is. Do you put ads in the paper for your puppies????? Do you STRIVE to breed "just good pets" or strive to breed show propects??????
Just because someone gets called out on being a BYB, you don't have to defend the practice. Always telling people what they want to hear might get you a lot of "Bests", but does it really have a purpose??????????

Selling living things requires a modicum of responsibility. Selling has almost always been considered a business, and when you do it over the phone or internet, the government gets involved. If it were just in the paper, no big deal.

It depends on where you live, but breeder licensing is spreading and the show breeders in many places will NOT be exempt.

Didn't you fight this law in your area when they were trying to pass it??? Nobody seems to think these laws will affect THEM, but they will.
