My yorkie seems to be very yippie and it is getting very annoying. How do I get him to stop or how could it be minimized? He is only 12 weeks old, so i want to stop early.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Yorkies.
Try only paying attention to her when she's quiet. That means no yelling at her, or anything. Completely ignore her when she's being loud.
Put 10 pennies into a soda can and tape it closed. When she starts barking and won't quit, shake the can. It will startle her enough that you can then praise her for being quiet. If it doesn't, toss the can in her direction, don't pelt her with it, just get her attention.
Remember that these dogs are very smart and very stubborn so you need to be firm, consistent and patient with them.
Good luck

I used the Yahoo search engine and found the following link, http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/printthread.php?t=381. This is a page at YorkieTalk.com. The members offer several methods of working with your Yorkie to stop the yipping.

train your dog- it's still early enough. buy Cesar Millan's book (the dog whisperer) or work with a trainer in your area. a bark collar does work on some dogs, but a yorkie will probably just bark through it (it stops spraying after a certain point). training makes for a much happier pet and owner.

First, if you wanted a quiet dog you got the wrong breed! Yorkies are notorious barkers.

There are so many reasons why dogs bark. The solution depends on the reason. When is your dog barking?

There is no reason to use an anti-barking collar on a puppy!!! That is completely absurd. The pup doesn't know any better, so teach him how to behave.

well when he gets old you can buy him a collar. NOT a shock color of course. but they have a "citrinela" collar where ehen your domg barks it sprays out a citrus secent which they do not liek and stops them from barking. as of now you can buy something called "bitter apple" (its a great spray that helps dogs from chewing and corrects behavior. you can find it on www.petsmart.com) and spry it on his tongue each time after he barks and say "no barking" or whatever you want to say.

good luck. i heard yorkies liek to bark though, he/she must be a cutie! =)
