If you're not too squeamish, I'll tell you what really works. I suffered from a bad case of psoriasis that covered my entire scalp and appeared in nickel-sized spots all over my body.
My dermatologist prescribed Enbrel. I had to give myself a small injection twice a week. Within two weeks, I could tell a very noticeable difference. All of the spots and my scalp cleared up soon after. It was miraculous.
Talk to your doctor and have him or her give you a more in depth explanation of how it works.

I had a 13 year history of psoriasis, though I was in good health otherwise. But these severe large, thick and scaly excoriated plaques on my neck, ears, trunk and limbs ruined the way I was leading my life. I would be with red, inflamed itchy skin for most part of the year and these silvery scales would seem to be erupting without any reason. To make matters worse, blisters would appear over already red and itching skin. It was living hell.
I was treated with various options but nothing seemed to be working. Some of the treatments that I underwent in this depressing period of 13 years included tar preparation, tropical steroids and anthralin. I was also given light therapy many times but everything I tried would give me temporary relief.
And soon, after a few days I would be plagued with the situation again. In one of those moments when I was completely lost I stumbled upon this website just by chance. I read it and felt that as if someone had put the story my life on this web page. I was thoroughly convinced that if ANYONE can cure me of condition, it would be you.
And was I right, or what. I started recovering within 3 days of starting this treatment. Something that had become a painful part of me for 13 years was actually getting healed! My ears are healed and my neck is smooth again!. I am a month into the treatment and I have never felt better in my life!

Hi I've had psoriasis for the past 12 years, I found the head was the easiest to control, shampoos, coal tar and the rest did not work for me, but dying my hair does. I was a member of a psoriasis group on the net a few years ago and a lot of people agreed that this works, its something to do with the hydrogen peroxide that seals the skin, obviously you will have to do a test on a small part firts to make sure it doesn't irritate you more but it definately clears my head 100% and my Mum too. Unfortunately when I tried it on my knees and elbows it didn't have the same effect...

I use skin zinc. It comes in a set w/ a liquid and a ointment. The ointment stops the itching, but you have to wait about an hour before next putting the liquid on. I usually just do the ointment at night and the liquid in the morning. I have several spots on my legs and scalp. I also find that certain foods make psoriasis worse, though many doctors would never admit it! Go to your local library and get the book Diet Four Your Blood type. I got by that (mostly!) and find that it helps.

Hi there,
If you have ever suffered with psoriasis you know the struggles of searching out relief. There are pricy over-the-counter products or prescription medications that may offer temporary relief. There are also quite a few natural cures for dealing with psoriasis.
You can find many interesting tips on this site http://psoriasis.toptips.org

Recent study shows that psoriasis on the scalp is often aggravated by the use of shampoos, these often leave deposits that react with the skin structure and cause yeast growth that results in flaking. Chemists recommend a coal tar shampoo such as polytar, this often helps but i have found that using an pure Aloe Vera shampoo prevents yeast growth and reduces the flaking considerably ( i was able to wear a dark suit and no deposits were seen on my shoulders). this is available from health stores such as Holland & Barratt and is cheaper than coal tar shampoos from chemists. Give it a go it may help.

I had this problem brought on by stress last year. I went to my doctor who prescribed me a shampoo with coal tar in it. It absolutely stunk but within weeks it had gone completely. You can buy products over the counter with coal tar in especially for the scalp and it really does work. You can also try any products designed for the scalp with tea tree oil in, this is also very good.
It might be worth going to see your Doctor and asking for the coal tar shampoo cos as it is only available on prescription it is a lot stronger than the chemists ones. Mine has not come back since but I do wash my hair in tea tree shampoo and conditioner.

Have a look at the GP notebook, a very useful source of information.
Maybe other folks know of alternative medicines that are supposed to help with psoriasis?
