Red wine, corked sitting on the counter
White wine, corked in the fridge

How do I tell if it's gone bad?

Thanks!

It really depends on the wine and is dependent on sugar, alcohol content, and the grape. I have had a sauvignon blanc in the fridge for two weeks and it is just now starting to taste a little different (slightly metallic). Recently a pinot noir corked on the counter at about 70F started tasting rusty at 3 days. Reds can be touchy just like anything at room temp. Smell is a good indicator in both cases.

If you screw the cap back on--forever ha ha
As long as you cork it after each use it should remain good till it's empty, but if it starts to smell like vinegar it's time to cork it if you klnow what I mean.

open it if it smells bad or like the cap (we say "sà di tappo" in italian)...or if there's too much deposit on the bottom (you can see it trough the bottle, if the bottom appears too dark..dont drink those things...)
but basically if it's well closed it doesnt expire...wine is always good.....

24 hours, after that it will be going worse really fast. How you can tell it's bad? It'll taste really rusty with a terrible aftertaste.
