I think it just makes people feel uncomfortable and "put on the spot" when you ask them direct questions like that. I don't think you're necessarily wrong for asking it, but I do have to wonder why? Do YOU like yourself?

The real dork is them my friend. You have something they do not and that is the courage and confidence to express how you feel about someone you desire. If they respond negatively then they are immature and then you have to evaluate and see that maybe that particular person wouldn't have been right for you anyway. Next time however, observe the person you desires behavior and maturity level. Then, you can make a better decision as to whether or not it is a good idea to tell someone how you feel. Mind you, it still wont mean that you are free from rejection, all it will mean is that a more mature person will reject you in a manner that is respectful and not damaging to your confidence.

If I were you I would start by being friends with your love interest. Keep it chill for at least a month and see if you feel a connection with the person; people don't like to be put on the spot with a question of "Do you like me" it makes them feel awkward. Trust me you will know if the person likes you after a few weeks. You can tell by body language and eye contact. YOU ARE NOT A DORK despite what that person said.

Good luck to you!

When you say "asking it to there face" do you mean being too blunt or eager?? Okay, just flirt outrageously... don't "confess your love" too soon...guys kind of back away from that unless they were interested in you first. All you should do is give some subtle signs that you are interested..for example.. look at the guy for a little bit too long, then look away, then look back and smile, then look down. That's the first rule of "the chase".

You need to like yourself first. Then stop worrying whether someone else likes you. Instead, worry whether that person knows that you like him or her. Insecure self-consciousness is hurting you more than others not liking you. Live in the moment and the situation at hand without trying to gain acceptance from others. You do what gains acceptance from yourself.

No you are not a dork. They are just jealous because they can't be so upfront. I, myself, wish I could be more upfront. If they say that to you then they aren't worth your time, eventually you will find someone who will reply back that they like you too. Be yourself.
