My dog licks himself way too much. It would be okay if he didn't have such bad breath. He makes himself stink and I have to give him baths frequently. I have no idea how to make him stop. He even wakes up in my dorm just licking himself. It is really annoying and gross and I'm not sure if it is bad for his health. Please help me find a way to make him stop. Thanks

First you need to take him to the vet--he is licking for a reason--either allergies to name ONE of many medical reasons or behavior issues and that needs to be looked into in order to get him to stop--Also have them check his teeth--Dogs need dental care as bad teeth leads to many other health issues-If his breathe is that bad HE prob. needs a dental cleaning which most vets will do--ALSO since your giving him so many baths and he is licking so watch the shampoo's you use as this can be drying out his skin and causing him to lick even more..

This Is A Natural Thing As Dogs Lick Themselfs Natural To Clean Themselfs But It Is A Gross Thing To Have Occur..I Suggest Dusting Him With Baking Powder Or Powder Might Help It Will Also Make Him Smell Better If This Doesnt Work Then Contect Your Nearest Vet Ask Them They Wont Charge You Anything To Ask Just Ask Them, If The Powdering Doesnt Work..Another Reason why He May Be Licking Himself Is Fleas..Fleas Bite The Skin And Leave Siliva And It Itchs Like Crazy and Dogs Lick Trying To Get The Itching to Stop..For This Choose Frontline Flea Medication Its The Best..Best Luck

I had the same problem with dry itchy skin. My human took me to the vet (I hate vets) and he told my human to put a tablespoon of canola oil in with my dog food once per week. I loved the flavor and my licking and itching stopped. My skin is not dry anymore and my hair is nice and shiny... Some dogs will lick as an alternative to scratching. From a dog who knows

Allergies or just nervs; You better take him to the vet. there are some schampoos for allergies or renourrishing for the skin. There also exists dry food for allergies and maybe to put a coffespoon of Colza oil in the food helps :-)

Licking himself could be a sign of a skin disorder or allergies. I would take him to a vet to get it checked out.
