I need real advise. We have a son and we are looking at adopting a daughter. We are white and I was hoping to adopt a hispanic daughter. My family is REALLY against that idea.
Yet we live in a area, that we would blend in, just fine.

Are you looking at getting a child who is not a baby? If so, I would definately do foster first. Plus in a lot of states when you do foster-adopt, the state will pay for the adoption and you're not stuck with the huge cost of adoption.

I don't know that I would limit myself to a specific race, because you don't know who out there needs a home more.

If you were trying to get a child of a specific race because you already have one child of that race (in my situation, my son is biracial and I would try for a child who is also biracial for the benefit of the child I'm adopting as well as my own child) that would make sense, otherwise, I would just see who's available for foster-adopt and go from there.

Don't worry about what your family says or thinks. You know what's best for you. Your family will adjust and get over the whole "differen't race" issue. Mine did when I had my biracial son. And those that don't get over it? Well who needs those sort of prejudicial people in their lives anyway?

If I could adopt a child I would adopt from Ethiopia. The orphanages there are overrun with HIV, Aids, Malaria, and many other diseases and sicknesses and they have no medication for these children. Also, the women who do live and grow up have a 90% chance of going through female circumcision. Look it up if you don't know what it is. They do tests before you get the child to make sure they are disease free. I would love to save a child from that horrible life. But, at this time, I just don't have the 6-10,000 dollars. It is cheaper to adopt from Ethiopia than many other countries and it is pretty quick, unlike some countries like China that drag it out forever. And, you only have to go to the country for 3 days to pick up your child or you can arrange for your child to be brought to the US. I am also white and I want to adopt a black child. Skin color doesn't matter. What matters is giving a child a chance at life. Don't listen to everyone else. They will love the child I'm sure and if they don't, then they must not care for you that much. Your family if they truly love you should support you in your decision. Giving an unfortunate child a chance at life is am amazing opportunity, no matter what the skin color.

Is the race their issue or just the whole adoption thing...I wasn't sure if your son was adopted. I personally would foster first, in one way it would be hard if you choose not to keep the child, but in another way it's the best choice because what if you decide it wasn't the best idea or maybe you and the child don't get along as well as you should. But in the end you are the only who can make this decision and I wish you all the best.
(I think adoption is a very noble thing to do)
Good Luck

If I was to adopt a baby (I may wind up doing so anyway), I would try a little foster period first. I would want to make sure that the kid liked us and we liked the kid. If the child hated my husband and I, that could make the poor kid's difficult situation even more difficult. As far as race goes, that isn't something that is very important to me. Your and your husband are doing the adopting, not your family. Get whatever "flavor" baby you want. I am all for adoption, my mother in law fosters kids and I have all the respect in the world for her.

My son is 22 years old, part Hispanic.....my ex and I adopted him when he was 4 mos old. He is my life, I raised him alone for 14 years. I love him like he is my biological child, I would never have changed a thing about our decision to adopt him!

Do what your heart tells you! If you want to do it, who cares what everyone else thinks. I think its a great idea! These days everybodys doing it! Look at Brad and Angelina Jolie! They are still a beautiful family and they adopted out of race ! Good luck!
