I enjoy watching programs like Family Guy and other adult comedy shows, and I know this is not appropriate, but it is so funny! I feel really bad sometimes bc I have 2 repent everyday bc if I have not watched something inappropriate, I have had negative thoughts. How are we ever gonna achieve perfection on earth? I feel awful bc I try 2 go 2 church as often as possible, but I still sin. I dont deliberately go out and look for wrong things 2 do. It just kind of happens. I am not referring to sexual sin bc I am a virgin or alcohol, bc I dont drink. I mean that I have issues with cursing! and I know that sometimes they way I dress is not extremely modest. I dont show my breast or anything but my clothes are rather tight at times. Should I stop wearing nail polish and makeup and let my hair grow out to become a better christian and accept my role as being a subservant women in the American culture? I wanna do what is right. Please help me.

First, Ask God, let him verify what I say

I believe that working on your thought life helps you to become a better Christian. Phil 4:8, Jesus said in the chapters between Matt 5-7 about how if a man thinks about sleeping with a woman he has already committed adultery. Ps 13:2; Ps 94; Mark 2:8; Romans 1:21

I believe in modesty, but I don't believe that God wants us to look bad. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit so look after it and keep it nice. Just don't be a stumbling block.

I know what you mean about the T.v shows. I watch Rove he is an Australian T.v presenter and his show is quite funny but it is regularly littered with sexualisation of people and inappropriate comments and gags. I have been feeling convicted to stop watching I probably should.

Banana's is good clean comedy and very funny and clever.

James 3 talks about taming the tongue it is very difficult, but acheivable.
Ps 37 - Ask God for the desires of your heart to match his.

Christianity is a progressive thing, don't beat yourself up, if it takes you less time to do something God has told you to do than last time - thats a step forward.
You don't swear where you usually would. Things like that

HEB 12:1-2 Keep you eyes fixed on Jesus the Author and perfector of our faith.

Do remember all sin is the same in God's eyes - in saying that don't throw yourself into new ones cause each of them have different natrual consequences. God knows how to get the best out of your life, allow him to guide you.

P.s Congrats on being a virgin and staying away from alcohol.

God Bless you Richly sister as you continue to Grow in the Grace Knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

You are beautiful, you are dearly and deeply loved.

Praise God that you have seen you errors and want to change them. Praise God, focus on God.

Hallelujah.

Your an inspiration.

Being a good Christian is not a physical thing, Dollface. That's a small part of it. No need to grow your hair, etc. I do not watch a lot of TV myself. Way too much sex and suggestive content. My kids are 11 & 13. I don't let them watch Family Guy. It is perverted, in my opinion. The Simpsons is adult complex comedy, but it is not so suggestive. I let them watch that. Heck, I love Homer myself, he is very funny to me. What a good Christian does is try not to be 'carnal minded' and of this world. You are supposed to be a more spiritual being and try to walk in the spirit with God. This is hard for young people, especially when they are programmed by society to 'multi-task', and be so tied up in the worldly things that are out there just waiting to be discovered, or re-discovered. As far as cursing, that is merely a habit. I used to talk so nasty. The F word and the MF words were my favorite ones. I no longer talk that way as a rule, but once in a while when I get mad, they fly out! A lot of it, I think, has to do with where you go to church. I used to go to a Southern Baptist church. It didn't help me a whole lot. Too laid back, I guess. I have been going to a full-gospel Holy Ghost filled Pentecostal church for the last few months, and it is really helping me to change! Not to mention that you can really PRAISE GOD there without being looked at like you are crazy. The speaking in tongues when the Holy Ghost comes over you kinda freaked me out at first, but when I looked in the Bible and found out it was Biblical, and REAL, I'm used to it now. You don't need to wait for an altar call, if you feel the need to go to the altar, you go! They let the Holy Spirit lead the services, and it is really refreshing to me! I hope you stay the course ( to coin a bad phrase) in your search to be a better Christian! And remember, hon - God started a wondrous work in you, and he will continue to finish it until the day of the Lord comes! So if you ever feel down about something you feel you did wrong, ask for forgiveness, PRAISE GOD and remember - God isn't finished with you! Love in Christ. DL

Dont' be so hard on yourself. I am a christian I wear light make up and some jewlwery and I like wearing bright clothing because I have fair milk white skin.

Dont stop wearing your makeup and nailpolish my granny when she was alive said this makeup is not something you should just put on your face but rather makeup should be used to bring out your features.

As for clothes I am a busty big breasted woman and even if I wore all black up to my forehead I still stand out. Wear thing that are comfortable but dont show cleavage.

I struggle with cursing just give it over to jesus daily. Let your light shine before man that does not mean you have to be a plain jane but use your looks to glorify God there is a difference between dressing attractvely or dressing "to attract"

How do be a better christian is not giving up all your glamour and pretty things BUT being poor in spirit Matthew 5:3 To be poor in spririt means you fully depend on God and Jesus and the Holy Spririt and realize apart from God you cant do anything it by his grace and strength that you have what you have. See John 15:5.

You can look your best for God just by keeping it simple. Get your colors done. I reccommend color me beautiful it is a great book and will help you alot.

As for TV I know its is hard NOT to laugh even if something is off color. Maybe limit your TV time and spend more time in Gods word which is the Bible.

On and one more this The bible says to submit NOT to be subervant, there is a difference between a servant and a slave.

Thank you for posting and God bless you for your honesty, it is greatly apprecaiated.

I hope that you are sincere. Cause you sound like a good girl, which is good. The apostle Paul also had that problem..."Ability to wish is present with me, but ability to work out what is fine is not present. For the good that I wish I do not do, but the bad that I do not wish is what I practice." Romans 7:18, 19, 21-23. We are all imperfect and miss the mark of perfection, so don't beat yourself over that. It's a very good start that you do know that you don't want to do "bad" things. Finding the problem is always the hardest thing to do, to find the solutions are very simple. You're on the right path. The bible states that there is "one misleading the entire earth" Rev. 12:9 who tries to get us to do wrong in God's eyes, being coniving or manipulating.

What is the most important reason for doing what is right? Yes, the bible does state a wonderful hope for mankind, however, that does not constitue the fundamental reason for doing so. The solution lies with the relation to an issue that involves ALL intelligent creatures personally. Please do read "Why Do What Is Right?" November 15, 2006 Watchtower by the Jehovah's Witnesses to find out what this vital information is about. It will help you to keep doing what is right and doing it the way God pleases. I commend you on being a virgin and a non-drinker in this twisted society. Kudos to you. Please go to www.watchtower.org to request the free magazine. Take care.

No, you don't have to stop wearing nail polish or makeup and you don't have to let your hair grow out. Be modest. Pray. Ask God to help you not watch those shows, He can help. Wenever you feel the urge to do or think something bad, get your Bible out and start reading. Pray for God to help get your mind off of those bad things. Listen to more Christian music. That'll help you think better. And take more time out of your schedule to go to church and get a blessing from the Lord. He may just use church and the pastor as a way of speaking to you.

Why not read the Bible daily, and as you become convicted of something ungodly in your life, do away with it. God isn't going to send you to hell for wearing nail polish. It's the condition of your heart He cares about. That is part of the freedom we have as Christians. It truly is a personal relationship with Jesus. You will know when you are wrong, He'll whisper in your heart. The most important thing is the daily bible study. Even if you just read for a few minutes each day, it's amazing how the scripture will touch upon what you are need of. The really great thing is how your eyes will be opened, and how close you can be to Him. I read 5 Psalms everyday, it has taught me a lot about worship.

This is the thing that really makes me sad for really religious people. Your so worried about what you do in this life, that you can not even enjoy it. Life is a gift, to throw it away would be rude. I'm not talking about going out and being crazy and ridiculous, you should be responsible, but if you can not even enjoy a fictional satire on family life with out thinking you are doing something wrong, then there is something wrong. Remember the true test of your faith should be that you can be exposed to such a thing and not be influenced by that thing.

All sinfulness, starts with your negative thoughts. Sins are similar to your bowels.
When it happens just delete them from your mind and let go. Treat them like your own human waste, because if you keep them inside your body, it will kill you since these are toxins and rejects of your own body.

I will also suggest that you pray to the Holy Spirit and ask for wisdom and guidance so that you may find the righteousness that you seek.
You see, if you have wisdom, you will have everything. Ask all these through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer.

sister let me start by saying i like your question,,, it sounds like you want to serve God and be a devout Christian,,,,, first let me say,, we will never achieve perfection on earth,,,but that does not mean we should not strive for it,,, second ,, the flesh and the spirit are enemies of one another,,, and the one you feed the most will in the end conquer the other,,,, so dig in the bible and limit yourself as much as possible to the broadcast TV and radio stations not about your savior,,, i know you like these shows but to train your mind to think pure thought you must put pureness in there,,,, what goes in,,,comes out,,, and last ,, if first there is a zeal of God ,,,which sounds like you have,,,
this is the starting place,, pray, fast and talk to Jesus all through the day, study as much as you can get time to do,,, and watch the seed planted start to grow and blossom ,,, ever time you pray or study ,,more seed is planted....God bless, and love and prayers

You've got to set your priorities. What's most important to you? Your priorities determine your behavior and thoughts. If you want to be a better Christian, then God has to be your priority, and hold nothing else as important as that.

PS - What do you mean by perfection? Perfection of behavior isn't even Biblical. When Jesus said to be perfect as his father is, he was talking about love and forgiveness. Your behavior won't be perfect until he returns, and you don't become perfect by trying to be. He's the one who changes you when you set him as the highest priority.
