depends on ur skintone i would say! i love my dark hair but sometimes i find it boring...i have light olive skin and have tried golden blonde, auburn, and copper violet. they look pretty good, the copper violet is awesome especially for naturally dark hair, it actually looks very natural despite the name and suits different skintones because its neutral (not too warm or cool)! looks like a warm light brown in the day, and a sexy shade of dark chocolatey plum at night. recieved tons of compliments on this one!
if u don't want to dye your hair and just want to make it lighter, add highlights to it. light brown or dark copper shades would look stylish, but if u have very black hair u might want to dye 2 shades lighter before highlighting with these colors. red or plum looks sexy on esp pure black hair and fair skintones.
edit:: red actually looks quite good and not trashy at all as long as its not a bright red...the trick is to go for the dark shades of red!

Remember that a permanent hair colour is permanent, unless you dye it right over again, you have to wait for it to grow out. A semi permanent may be better if you are just wishing to try out colours. You can get a good idea about which colour suits you with those sachets that last a few washes- the wash in wash out type.
If you have black hair, i would avoid dying your hair jet black- it always looks a bit adams family to me. Also, reds and purples are great fun, but do not suit everyone's colouring. I would go with a very dark brown.

This has multi tonal effects.
Just read the packet- it usually tells you which colours are suitable for black hair and the colour results.
In my opinion, take what nature gave you and enhance it as naturally as you can- avoid blond.
Make sure you use plenty of conditioner after colouring as you may find your hair gets drier after dying it.

If you have never coloured your hair before get advice from a colourist at a hair salon. They can give you advice on what will suit you.
Its not just about creating colour, it is also about maintaining the colour once you have it dyed. Also about making your crowning glory look good.

i would not make a change a very drastic change cause it iwll look stupid when ur hair starts growing back out but it all depends on a tone of someone's skin...the color of eyebrows and etc... i reccoment getting highlights first unless u want to die it just a little of a lighter color and then highlights..ur best bet is to go to a hair salon and do not die ur hair with walmart brand or wuteva case it fades out fast and the colors arents always appeared to be the color and can really dry ur hair out tremendously!!!

Don't do any obvious steaks like blue , red etc, they look really cheap.
If black suits your skin tone leave it black. If it makes you look dull please don't be a walking joke and dye it blonde like a silly Eastern European girl in my class (She has really black roots and preoxide blonde hair, she looks tres terrible). If you want to brighten your look. Go for chocolate coloured brown, dark hair looks classier and try to keep it one/ multi tonal colour, not streaks.
You are very lucky you have thick hair, have a look at magazines and see what you like and you can find makeover websites which will show you what you will look like with certain shades of hair colour .Type it in google, virtual makeover or something.

i would get a mix of two or three colours in my hair if i were you like blonde caramel and brown. also because youve got fair skin you should stay away from white hair and black hair, and try to warm up your skin tone with caramels, toffees and brown no black

Well what color do you like? That would be the only way to figure out what colour to die your hair. And go to the store, and go to the beauty sections with all the hair products, and there you'll see some sample hair and you should see if it looks good with you.

a dark blue, purple or a red in highlights or streaks
if you go lighter then you will be having to use bleach and that will make your hair really dry.
the fact that you have had your hair thinned doesnt really matter.
