It all came down to a lack of faith. Then the spies came back and reported how strong the people of the land were they doubted that God could give them the land.. Again and all through the Bible it all comes down to faith.... Jim

Jews In The Desert

The Jews wondered in the desert for 40 years because they were disobedient and didn't want to follow God's commands. God therefore allowed them to wonder in the desert for 40 years until all of that disobedient generation had died off.

I asked a similar question awhile back and the answer I received was that a group of Biblical scholars and archaeologists and such attempted to recreate the path that the Jews took out of Egypt. And they got incredibly lost due to the geography of the land. Back then, they didn't have modern technology to help out like GPS.

But yet, during the same time period, traders and other travellers crossed that area in just a few days' time each way with no problems. So it doesn't make any sense as to why it would take 40 yrs.

the punch line of the Joke is that someone lost a quarter.

but in all seriousness the Jews did not wonder in the Desert for 40 years.

its true they spent 40 years their but most of that time they were in one place. In one place for example they spent 19 years.

Because Moses was on crack and got them lost...

Seriously, what is with the number 40 in the Bible? Jews wandered the desert for 40 years. It rained 40 days and nights... I dont get the significance of the number myself...

Moses was leading the Jews out of Egypt, because they were slaves. The trip through the desert was supposed to be MUCH shorter, but becuase of the Israelites constant sinning, it was prolonged to 40 years.

Because of SIN.

Nu 14:33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness FORTY YEARS, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
Nu 14:34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even FORTY YEARS, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
Nu 32:13 And the LORD'S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness FORTY YEARS, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

Num 14:32 But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.
Num 14:33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
Num 14:34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

Your question taken at face value.

That's a long time to "Wonder", eh? Wonder what they were wondering about. Perhaps they were wondering why they are wondering in the desert, maybe. Just wondering.
