Mav see there is much ado about women being modest. Mav has no issue in that. Mav understand that how a woman dresses affects how others look at her.
What about how men dress? She doesn't know about you, but there is something about a 20something man with a tight fanny in wranglers that make her eyes go pop! Shouldn't men be careful so as not to tempt a woman?

I agree with you Mav. Men should be more modest and not tempt Mavs eyes to go pop.

Mav...you are a thinking troll. A good thing. Picturing a reaction, before an incident is great. Analyze, subjection, role playing. But, do not go too far. If you are single, then you can look and think. If not, just look and not think too much. Modesty is in the eye of the woman in question. A man can only make rules and be tough in enforcement. Glad to see ya back!!! :)

In my religion (Islam) men are also supposed to be modest. They must be covered AT LEAST from the waist down to the knee. In pretty much all Muslim cultures men wear shirts (unlike here in the USA where it is not uncommon to see a man without his shirt). He should also wear loose clothing - not tight fitting Wranglers. :) The beard is also a form of modesty for men though it is not required.

Yes, this quote expresses how I feel about the issue:

"Be very careful if you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his head to be superior, but from the side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved."
- Talmud -

Women are not tools or possesions, they are people and deserve respect. That includes to not trying to lure or tempt them...

Yes, Mav, you're correct. All too often, it's only the young women who are lectured on dressing modestly. Nowadays, young men wear pants hanging below their touchases, no shirts, etc.

We shouldn't be hypocritical.

Peace.

personally, I think everybody, male and female should just go with clothes that fit, even though men aren't usually much into dressing to tempt, there are those who do dress in "painted on" clothes. The general rule of thumb should be "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" and I'm referring to actual geese, no double entendre implied

Your question and the comments have been great reading. All I can add is this reflection. I love to admire beautiful women as much as the next guy, but I do not believe that anyone, except perhaps the weakest-willed souls, is unable to control himself or herself no matter HOW revealing or sexy someone else chooses to dress. I don't need others to dress "modestly" for me to mind my manners.

Maybe the 20-something in the Wranglers isn't trying to tempt women. :)

doubt if many guys would think about their dress because as an example
I'm a balding, pot - bellied, handicapped old man and the ladies who I've gone out with since the death of my wife have been after only one thing --- what was in my pocketbook and once that was gone they were to. so you can understand my position -- I hope.

i guess so. men sometimes dress to impress the same way girls do, it is how we attract a partner, aslong as you have the intention of meeting someone and staying with them(marriage), then it is ok. if someone is dressed in a way that makes you lust it is more your responsibility to look away/ignore how that person looks. however some people over do it with how they dress so it all depends.
