Losing 28 pounds safely and permanently should take at least 3 months (2 pounds/week), and VERY few people can do that without gaining it back. That would be a very unusual pace.
More common is the 1 pound/week pace, which puts 28 pounds at about 6 months.
Of course, all this depends on how overweight you are. If they're your LAST 28 pounds, it's much more difficult that the first 28 pounds.
Be patient. Do it right. Diet and exercise.

In four months? That shouldn't be that difficult. You've got 16 weeks to go and if you are disciplined and focused, you should easily be able to lose 2 lbs a week or more with only 2 (that's right TWO) simple changes to your lifestyle:
1. eat right
2. exercise
Eating right doesn't necessarily mean eating less, but for most Americans it does. Eliminate high fat, high sugar foods. Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and lean meats. If it comes in a box or a plastic wrapper (like a twinkie), you probably shouldn't eat it. And drink water . . . lots of it, then drink some more. If you're trying to lose weight, drink upwards of a gallon of water a day and that will help immensely.
As far as exercising goes, you don't have to pony up $40 or $50 a month for a gym membership, but you do have to get moving. All it takes is a pair of shoes that give you good athletic support and you're on your way. Walk, run, do jumping jacks, pushups, crunches, lunges, or anything that gets your muscles moving and your heart rate up for at least 20 or 30 minutes a day.
If you can do these things, you can easily lose 28 pounds in 4 months.

The safest, healthiest weight loss is 2 lbs. per week, so your time frame should be just about right. Concentrate on eating a lot of natural foods such as fruits and vegetables and whole grains...and don't forget to drink a lot of water (or hot tea, if you like it - hot liquids make your tummy think it's more full!) I like to eat shredded wheat a lot when I'm trying to lose because it fills me up and is very healthy. Post even has an idea on its box to eat shredded wheat, fat free milk, and fruit for breakfast and lunch. Then for dinner, you could have some grilled chicken or fish and vegetables, and a salad.
Also, don't forget the importance of exercise. If you tone your body, you can get slimmer. It's actually better to be heavier and toned than lighter and flabby. But the best is lighter and toned! Good luck...You can do it! :-)

Why 28? Why not 27? Or perhaps 26 and a half?
If you have been gaining weight for years, do you think it's all going to fall off in 4 months?
Heck no, it takes years of dedication to proper eating and exercise.

Get off your butt! Head to the gym 4 times a week and exercize for a half hour. Then start eating healthy food (limit your calories to 1,500 a day--YES you have to count them) And trust me, the pounds will fall off.
