I filed a harrassment charge against a woman and the police can not find her to serve her the papers and I am scared she is going to do something to me and now she has disappeared!

I take it you are talking about a restraining order. If that is the case it is not valid until she is lawfully served. If this person has disappeared, consider yourself lucky. Unfortunately, we cannot predict what this person could/would do. Try to relax, forget about her, and if she pops up again, document it thoroughly. I recommend purchasing a small digital recorder whereas if you were confronted by this person you would have good evidence of this encounter, versus a he said she said situation.

You might still be able to get an order of protection against her, but even if you do, it is only a piece of paper. Learn to defend yourself. Martial arts is a good way to defend yourself. If you are not comfortable with that, look for Impact classes. They are in most major cities. Search google for "impact self defense". That will bring up a list of self defense organizations. Add your state or nearest large city to get a local list.
