My parakeet has been scratching+biting himself and fluffing his feathers a lot (we just got him a few days ago). I'm thinking he probably has some kind of birdie lice, yes? So, assuming it is something like that, how should I go about treating him? And could it be something other than "birdie lice"?

Mites possibly, or he/she could just be preening himself. Try giving the bord a bath and see if that helps. Just spray with a water bottle. Make sure to keep the bord warm, and not let him get into a draft when wet. Or ever for that matter.

how do you know that he's not just preening? Thats what it sounds like to me. Yeah, birds do that you know. If you really think there's a problem, take him back to the pet store and ask the people there.

ask your vet. you just got him, so he's probaly stillyoung, sohe's probaly playing around. or maybe he's preening. my best advice is to ask a friend to save money if you dont wanna go to the vet.

Let him take him a bath, maybe that would help...

Also, when they grow out new feathers, it makes them very itchy!
