The way to tell if something is a vegetable or a fruit is by looking at what you are eating. If what you are eating is the root or stalk of the plant it is considered a vegetable. If what you are eating is not the root or stalk of the plant and contains seeds it is a fruit. Therefore, a tomato is a fruit! Hope this helps.

All those who said tomato is a fruit are only partly right. Yes, it is a fruit, it has seeds, is sour (acidic), but IT GROWS ON A SEASONAL PLANT, NOT TREES. We generally refer the fruits of the long life plants (lasting several years) as fruits, while the fruit of the seasonal plants as vegetables. Examples: Brinjals, Cucumbers, Gourd, Pumpkin Capsicum....

I am almost positive that it is a fruit, it has seeds and fit's the general description of a fruit. But people don't see it as a fruit because it isn't that sweet.

It's a fruit. Had this on a school quiz. The way they made me understand easily was because its like an orange-it has acid.
Tomato is a fruit that we use as for a veggie.
I love 'em.
