Because it feels safer to them. The world is a scary place to them and those rules make em feel better.
True story: My big sister was Valadictorian of her HS Class. And once she married her fundy preacher husband, I asked "So who are you gonna vote for, for mayor?" And she said, "I don't know. Tom hasn't told me yet."
*sigh*

In the bible Jesus Say's my yoke is not burdensome. I do not know why you think to live by what God says in not to be free. You are wrong if you follow the rules of the bible you life would be better. If ppl lived by the bible we would not have wars or hatred or crime divorce i am not going to name everything i would be here all day. It is because ppl choice to not follow God's advice that we have the problem we face today. And what does freedom do for us today- cheat steal lie freedom to rip ppl off of there money too over tax ppl you get my point. So what's so great about that? That is why we are going through what we are today because Satan challenged God's right to rule us. I can see that God does have the right to rule us because as you can see today this world is not good. so much hate among other things. We cannot rule ourselves the prove is right in front of you take a good look at what freedom to do whatever we want has gotten us Can you really say you love to live in this world of racism ans hate Homeless corrupted Government. ETC.

Interesting point. You see, whatever system people set up after freeing themselves from a tyranny, there will be rules. Atherwise it would be anarchy. And even anarchists have rules! With no rules, you end up having no freedom. Paradoxical, but true. Those who are Christians, or Jewish for that matter, end up finding their rules in the Book they (we) consider as being God's Word.

Because following the rules of the Ten Commandments is our duty. It still is freedom. Freedom of religion.
I hope someday you can understand that. Fighting to be free from slavery, terrorism is different from turning to the Bible.

The rules always set you free. There is no stricture forcing you to follow the rules in the bible but the freedom to accept the freedom of eternity with God.
We are social creatures and must have rules in our societies. The "rules" you refer to are common sense guides.

Think about it. The Bible is the most liberating Book ever written. It has freed generations of men, and entire nations. What better book to live ones life by?

I dont follow your question entirely as it can be answered in a few different ways with more than one meaning.
God's laws are the bigest to follow so that is good they did choose that path. Humans are messed up and sinners but most eventually find God and the right path. Not sure how else to answer the question as you refer it as--?

No one is truly free I'm afraid. To be truly free requires anarchy!
However, the bible definitely limits the freedoms of an individual and as an agnostic it is relieving not to be bound by its rules.
Now if we could only eliminate government interfering in our lives... then I'd be happy.

Whether it is Jesus/God's/Muhhammad (I know I probably spelled his name wrong, no offense intended, just poor spelling)/Buddha/Vishnu/*insert your religious leader/character/figure here*, I believe that they aim for a message of peace and love and freedom, BUT, manipulative and evil people have seen so many people's blind faith in these figures and have decided to manipulate that faith to oppress them. Religion itself is not oppression, but it can be easily used to oppress the people that follow it. Christianity was used that way for years in Europe, it wasn't until education and knowledge of science and independent thinking against religion came about that there were people who diagreed with the images of God that they were taught and therefor able to revolt against the leaders who oppressed them supposdly in the name of God.

The Bible offers freedom through Jesus Christ. Everybody on this earth is in a prison awaiting the Judgment of God. God will either welcome you into his eternal kingdom or judge you in accordance to his righteousness. Remember that God is perfect and holy. If you aren't perfect than you need forgiveness of your sins. Only Jesus is God's perfect satisfaction for your sins. Repent and trust Jesus to save you on Judgment Day.
