My dog is a Rat Terrier Mix.His is quite a bit bigger than normal Rat Terriers. We found him about 2-3 weeks ago. we took him to the vet, and the vet said he semed healthy. Well ive been noticing that he's been drinking a lot of water; i think its more than he really needs. He also goes to pee a lot too.His is not fixed, and we do have another male dog so that COULD be some of the reason why he's peeing/marking his territory.but im kinda worried that he may be diabetic.we are trying to house train him, but it really doesnt seem to be working too well.just yesterday he was sniffing around and pee'd in my parents room.he knows its bad, cause i give him a spanking and send him outside to do ALL of his business, then send him to his bed and close the door.do u think he may be diabetic?i really need answers.i dont have enough money to take him to the vet to get a blood test.could u maybe give me the symptoms of a diabetic dog?Would the symptoms be getting worse by now?

. Why don't you call your vet and discuss this with them.....if you have a family member that tests their own blood sugar, you can use their kits on the dog too. .Ask your parents if you have family that use sugar monitors.

Drinking water is not in itself anything to get panicked about; neither is urination. If the dog was on his own and has only been with you for a few weeks, you can't really tell yet what's "normal" for him. It usually takes dogs at least that long to settle into a new environment and start to show what they're made of.

Don't "train" your dog by hitting him; that teaches him nothing but to be afraid of you and fearful dogs can get very aggressive. (If you "found" this dog, you have no idea what it's past history has been like; it could have been abused and was obviously neglected. Using corporal punishment on it may only exacerbate it's bad behaviors rather than correct them.)

And... If you can't afford to provide the dog with veterinary care or properly train the dog then why did you take him in? Turn him over to a local rescue that can provide him with better care and proper training.

Drinking alot, urinating alot, eating and not gaining weight... there's many symptoms of diabetes. (I have a diabetic cat).

If you took him to the doctor, then he should have done a complete checkup on him, including bloodwork. That would have been able to send up a red flag if there was a problem.

If you can't afford to take him to the vet for a diabetes blood test, I can tell you that insulin (and the syringes that go with it) is expensive. I pay about $120 every 6 weeks for insulin for my cat. Plus there are the monthly blood checks to check the blood sugars.

In order to save you time and aggravation (and money in the long run), call the vet, see what he says and ask that blood test for diabetes be done.

I have an Airedale Terrier, a German Shepherd/Chow mix, and an Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie mix. What kind of dogs do I wish I could have...Besides Airedales, probably some sort of Setter or Pointer, a Giant Schnauzer, a Boxer, a Belgian Sheepdog, a Collie and an Irish, Lakeland, Scottish, Wheaten, Welsh, and Wire Fox Terriers The coolest thing my dog does is peel boiled eggs. The funniest thing he does is he sits in a wheelbarrow and lets you push him around everywhere.

It doesn't sound like he's sick. It just seems to me like he gets thirsty a lot, and pees a lot. And he's probably just hard to potty train, like my dog. :) I don't think he's diabetic, and I don't know the symptoms. Sorry. :( But I really hope he's ok! Ya know, I think the vet and the doctor and the dentist and stuff shouldn't be so much money! :(

Did the vet do a urinary test, he might have a bladder infection. Also if you can not afford to take good care him place him in a home that can.

he is probebly spraying, my cat did this really bad and we got him at a yr old even after we fixed him. he was litter trained and still peed all over our clothes. you need nip this in the bud before it gets worse.

I think he did this cause he was fixed too old. get the dog fixed asap. it may be something it will never stop doing if you dont work hard to stop him.
