We always take turns driving so we don't have an accident or kill anyone. Long story short we have a friend who just will not participate in the car pool program. Even if he is sober!

Then stop taking him along. I can see maybe letting him ride every time if he had a drinking problem and just couldn't help it, but if he's sober sometimes and still won't take his turn then leave him at home. Tell him it's his turn to drive and he can either take his turn or he's no longer invited to join you and he can find his own way there and back if he wants to go.

Call him out on it. Someone should ask him specifically if he will be the DD for the night. If he says no, ask why. If he gives you a lame excuse point out that you and everyone else has hauled his drunken @ss around. If he doesn't see your point don't invite him out, unless he's a longtime friend, then just suck it up. He probably just doesn't want to have to stay sober or assume any responsibility, or pay for gas. Yeah, maybe he's just cheap.

I don't drink so I never had a problem being the designated driver. However, as friends whom do drink, each one has to carry their weight. OK, if he doesn't want to drive then let him pay for the drinks or gas instead. This was it balances things out.

Sounds to be like a friend who does not want any responsibilities. He/She only believes in others taking responsibilities, makes me wonder what kind of a friend is he/she.

I would first make him aware of how this makes you feel. Talk it over (he may have a good reason that you don't know about) and if that doesn't resolve the issue, then simply leave him out!

Why even ask him? Make your plans, don't invite him and see how that works? Do it! This Jerk needs a lesson in friendship. If that doesn't work, he is NO friend, move on...

Thats kinda selfish! I would give his spot to someone who is more of a team player.
