My daughter is interested in attending a local Performing Arts School (grades 7-12). She's in 5th grade now, and is starting to get involved in musical community theater & acting lessons. Any other ideas for skills sought after by these schools?

She doesn't play an instrument, but is athletic (gymnastics). She shows an interest in hip hop/modern dance.

By "school" I mean Jr High & High School. They teach academic curriculum as well as the Performing Arts. You must audition to be accepted. That's why I asked what talents/skills were most in demand for these schools (ie, dancing more than instrument, voice over acting, etc.)

I what to go to a performing arts school as well. Acting class's are good, if she shows interest in hip hop then have her git into it. Dace is big in all schools of the arts. Also try point. It is allot like Ballet, but point has hard acrylic(a box) at the end of the shoe so you can get on your box and do spins, it is hard but does not take as long to learn. Gymnastics will definitely help in all kinds of dance. Also try lyrical, she should get singing lessons.
Best of luck to her.
(P.S. Do mot do any of this unless it is her passion, it will not turn out well. Those schools look more for passion than talent.)

I have a daughter who spent 10 years in dance, at acredited schools. I also have been involved in performing arts for many years. I'm confused by your Q however.

You state it's a "school" not just a performing arts center,,, How might you define the design and mission of a "school"???

With no offense to that "school",,,many are non profit organizations,,, but still collect fees to actually "TEACH" and perhaps in the course of that, a student learns skills or improves skills that already exist in part, but may need finesse.

On a private school level, if my child wanted to attend, and I could afford that, being a supportive parent,,, I wouldn't care if she wanted to dance with just one leg,,, if the school accepted her, I'd expect she might gain from their teaching, her desire, and my money.
