Is it like a whisper in the ear, a foreign thought, a sign from outside like a newspaper headline? How does this work?

it is like a thought that is louder than your own .....
it is in your head ... and yet not ...
quite hard to explain but i am doing my best
the hard part is ... knowing what is and is not spirit
what is your own thoughts or your imagination....
so we have to test spirit ... see who they are , why they come , get details descriptions ... and ask those we are giving the spirit to , to validate it

added note .. you said Godly spirit , but what i do and am talking about is mediumship sweetheart
this is not biblically ok ... infact you may not want to ask me about it ... but thats ok ( although in my opinion they are from God ) xx

the Heavenly Angels are spirit beings without bodies as we have,they are the messengers of God, the name Angel means a messenger, and they can communicate in any way they see fit,but the communication would always be direct and truthful.
the demons on the other hand do not usually like to be seen,they prefer to do their nasty work under cover,and use all manner of deception and where as the Heavenly messenger brings calm and peace the demon brings confusion and fear.

Often in ways you don't notice because it is often subtle ..ie a moved ring or piece of jewelry, radio popping on by itself, tv changing channels on its own, phantom phone calls, by the way all of this has happened to me. You have to pay attention to lil stuff like that. Often they come to you in your sleep or while you are sleep. Angels on the other hand often come through as that voice in your head that unfortunately many people often ignore, sometimes they come in through physical means, like causing your car not to crank giving you those precious few minutes that help you avoid a wreck... small stuff we don't think about until something happens and you look back and say.. "that's why I couldn't or didn't..."

well with some spirits the appear as a small orb that waft across the room then either disappears or manifests as a ghost
