NO. As long as it is clean, rust is actually harmless to ingest.

That being said, I think I would spring for a new tea ball, but thats just me.

It could make you crook..try soaking it in a dish with a piece of
aluminium foil ,bicarb and warm water to clean

go get a stainless steel one....they dont rust and last for life....
