Let it grow, let it grow, let it grow. You are stressing out too much. Getting him over his attitude about the whole situation is far more important than how he looks. Just wait until you take him to the dentist. Yipes. Try playing barber shop with him. Get him to sit still with promises of going to the big boy barber shop. Let it grow until he is ready. He is obviously not liking something at the barber shop. Ask him about it in a way he will understand. Tell him how proud you are of him and that you would be so, so, so proud if he sat still at the barbers and then bribe him with a treat afterwards. When he realizes it doesn't hurt, you will probably end up with a kid that likes going. Don't take him back to that one lame place. Or, you could try sitting in the chair with him in your lap and hug him firmly and gently and talk to him the whole time, telling him how great he looks and all. Know what I mean? Really fine, straight as an arrow hair is hard to cut on a toddler. If you aren't qualified, it will probably turn out worse than it is now.

If you don't know how to cut hair, don't practice on a child. You'll regret it. Take him to a barber or a salon where they are experienced with clippers. Even a cheap shop will most likely do a better job than an inexperienced mom. I don't mean to sound harsh, I just don't want you to end up feeling sad & guilty if it doesn't turn out right.

My son is two and I was able to get him to sit on my lap while he got a haircut. It's a lot easier to trim it yourself once he gets a decent shape to it. He needs some layers to get rid of the "bowl" effect.
I also realized that scissors make all the different. I was using drug store haircutting shears and upgraded to half-decent ones from a beauty supply place. Well worth the investment - makes it 10 times easier!

If you're unsure of how well you might cut it, take him to a salon and have it cut. Most salons work on children regularly, even toddlers. Supercuts is great! Most of the stylists are used to working on children, but you can always call ahead to check. I hope this has helped.

I took my son to Cool Cuts, he gets to sit in a car & watch a movie. I have them buzz his hair to 2 (length for the razor). We live in AZ so it's a nice cool haircut, plus he looks adorable.

I'd just take him to your local barber. Kid's cuts are quite cheap.
