my gf just broke up with me last week and at the end of her telling me how great i was and how much fun she had with me, she said lets just be friends but i would understand if you didnt want to be. her reason for bailing was she just didnt have the same feelings i did about her and she was sorry for leading me on.....anyway i told her that maybe we could be friends down the road but right now i didnt want her friendship
How did I handle it? Was that just an easy way for her to dump me?

I know how you feel...my ex did the same to me.
We do want to remain friends when we say that...it's just not always easy. A lot of anger and hard feelings can still exist when a relationship ends unexpectedly. I understand why you did what you did, even if she doesn't.
I think she tried to do it the nicest way she could...no one wants to make a breakup worse than they have to.
Believe me, you will find someone who will make you a million times happier than she did. Good luck!

I have always meant it when I have told that to my bf right now. We haven't broke up, but I am considering leaving him. However, I would take him as a friend anytime. I do love him, but I get the hint like he is not that crazy about me. I don't know; let's see what happens.

Sounds like you handled it well and honestly. I'm sure she meant it - actually, toward the end, that was exactly what you were to her - just a friend. If she wasn't interested like that, she wasn't interested. I don't know of another way to put it.
Just don't be one of those "friends in reserve" that she can call on in a pinch for a little booty.
