The history of TaeKwonDo began roughly ten thousand years ago when the ancestors of the Korean people migrated from Central Asia to the peninsula that is now Korea. They relied mainly on hunting to survive, climbing rugged mountains, crossing strong rivers, and traveling along the seashore in their search for food. These rigors developed strong bodies, superior fighting skills, and a sense of teamwork. Historians theorize that, upon their return, the hunters would reenact their motions of kicking, punching, stabbing, and throwing, also recreating fighting scenes with neighboring tribes with whom they had fought during the hunt. A natural outgrowth of reenactments was practicing movements in order to refine and perfect the techniques and their skills. Through time, these techniques formalized into martial arts.

I have never liked to see any Korean style use the term Karate when that is not what they teach. It started in the 1960's and early 1970's. The American public had, for the most part, not heard of Tae Kwon do then. The Koreans would put up signs saying "Karate" because most people had heard of karate, even if the did not really know what it was. The trend became common. Mickypoo Sorry, but we that have studied Karate for decades, do not think that Taekwondo is karate. TKD was created using techniques that existed in Korea for many hundreds of years. General Choi modeled TKD after karate in the way it was taught. Choi had studied Karate. TKD is not karate. Choi only borrowed the uniform style and belt system from karate, as well as the method of teaching it. TKD is simply not karate, but is similar.

it comes From Korea, it is part of the collective Martial Arts of Musul, it's said to be mainly based around Taekyon, A discipline that was an early Korean Martial Art that survived well after the Japanese occupation of Korea. although the techniques in Taekyon are unlike any that are found in any Korean Martial Art like Hwa Rang Do, Tae Kwon Do , Tang Soo Do, and Hapkido.
But it is heavily influenced by both the Chinese (Kung Fu) and Japanese (Karate) Martial Arts in both techniques and terminology.

Tae kwon do was created / came from Korea . It was originally used by Korean special forces soldies . It is a mixture of Korean tang soo do and tae kyun and also Japanese Karate . (This is due to the fact that imperial Japan at one time controlled Korea.)
