1 Peter 2:1
Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

You must first define sin. Good luck with that. Once you think you've got a universally acceptable term, then define hypocrisy in the same way. Good luck with that as well. Now that you have your two concepts objectively defined, see if hypocrisy is a subset of sin. If so, then yes it is. If not, then no it isn't.
Not trying to be a wise guy, but everyone thinks they know what constitutes sin. There is, however, no universally accepted definition for it. You have yours and I have mine, so hypocrisy may or may not be a sin. It is subjective.

Sin is doing something it really is deemed incorrect by religion, which incorporates adultery. Hypocrisy is the position you're saying one ingredient and do yet another. An party might want to be publically condemning adultery, even as committing it in secret. the guy has already sinned by committing adultery. Her silence doesn't replace the truth of that sin besides the undeniable fact that it does enable him to maintain his solid call. He might want to be tempted to proceed speaking adverse to adultery and sin, inspite of being an adulterer and sinner himself. hence he might want to be including hypocrisy to sin.

Yes, the Lord HATES hypocrisy. Matthew 6:5 ".. do not be like the hypocrites...."

We're all hypocrits on some level. If we say we are not, we are liars. As an evolving, flawed human being, we are all about 10 steps away from where we want to be. All we can do is try to do and be moral and true to our beliefs.

For me it is one of the worst sins, it is a sin of pride (one of the classical 7 deadly sins).

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Commandments#Text_of_the_commandments
The following is the text of the commandments from Exodus 20:1-17, New Revised Standard Version.
"16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."

The 9th (or 8th for Catholics and Lutherans) Commandment is:
"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." and that is usually translated in the modern texts, as "Thou shalt not lie."
Hypocrites lie to themselves and to the people whom they fool with those lies.

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypocrite
"Hypocrisy is the act of pretending or claiming to have beliefs, feelings, morals or virtues that one does not truly possess or practice."

Claiming to have beliefs, morals and virtues that one does not have can easily lead to committing a sin; from a phony belief in God to creating a lie so you can convince others that you share their beliefs, morals and virtues.

I really hate people like pedophile priests and certain gay Evangelists who preach one thing, while living another. You cannot preach that gay people are evil and be a practicing gay person. I don't hold anything against gay people, only those that condemn them for living what seems to be normal for them. The fact that an otherwise moral man can be a practicing gay shows that gays are not evil. Of course this man has committed another sin far greater in that he has held himself out to be an idol of his religion; in a religion that doesn't suffer idols (a violation of the 2nd commandment, 3rd for Jews and Protestants).
