it varies from person to person honestly. this is from a brand new article on msn, i happened upon the response from a dermatoligist:

No treatment is guaranteed to remove stretch marks, but you can make them less noticeable. Try twice-daily applications of OTC Striae Stretch Mark Creme -- several studies have confirmed that it can reduce red or white marks in about four weeks.

my wife says daily application during her pregnancies, did help.

but of course we'd never know because to be sure, you'd need to have another copy of my wife, going through the same pregnancies, and NOT applying the cream... ;-)

after pregnancy I don't believe that anything can be done, because firstly no cosmetic creams produce any durable changes to start with, and secondly stretch marks are deep in the skin so would be even less likely to be treated by any cream (assuming there existed creams that worked ;-)

as far as I know, the only treatment involves cosmetic surgery. Though some people claim that laser only also works.

good luck

I haven't bothered with any expensive stuff

Walgreens sells Mederma (and a cheaper store brand - which is what I've been using) it's a scar removal gel and it works!

that's what strech marks are, scars, the 1st guy is wrong to say they are sub-dermal, they are surficial scars

as for the 2nd answer, cocoa butter cream helps prevent stretch marks by improving skin elasticity, not clear them up after they're there, I used it during my pregnancy and am prond to say my belly is stretch mark free!

try it and see if it helps, it has worked wonders on my c-section scar so I'm gonna use it on others and on my strech marks (from growing, not pregnancy)

Nothing really works for stretch marks, but I have noticed on my friends that they use cocoa butter and it helps a little.

i agree with super girl cocoa butter works good, and with time the stretch marks to fade but they don't go away completely, unless you opt for plastic surgery where they use a laser, but you should be proud of those u earned them,

No. Stretch marks are sub-dermal. Creams can't penetrate.

My daughter's dermatologist recommended Mederma for stretchmarks. Otherwise if they are really severe and bothersome they offer lazer treatments but of course those are costly.
