Can you tell me what it is about the American culture that makes men so anti-romance? I recently went to Italy and saw a vast difference! The men over there aren't as prideful and are very Romantic and Loving, Now i hate to talk bad about American men they have their pros, but i just don't understand why it's so hard for them to approach women or shower romance on them (as most women deserve), why is this?

North American culture is not a quarter as romantic as European culture for either sex. I suppose a lot of it has to do with priorities that these different cultures place on things. Here in North America is seems that people are more interested in belongings and things, while in Europe (certainly there is greed for belongings there also) but people tend to be raised to value the beauty of each other and so their romance is more outgoing then here. Plus the fact that America is only 250 years old or so and some of these European places have been around for 1000's of years so there traditions are more inbred.

Not all American men are anti-romance. But sadly the majority are. My opinion would be because we, as their girlfriends, significant others and wives, let them be this way. A man will treat you the way you allow him to treat you.

I have found you can tell how a man will treat you by how he treats his mother, sister or other female relatives.

I would also like to rebuke part of your statement about the Italian male in Italy......they are very prideful and sometimes very full of themselves, but they are very romantic and loving.

i find your quet interesting, so, I may be able to shed a bit of ;light on the situation... females are the main problem here in america they have been influenced with the mainstreram dogma from talk show hosts that they can be independent of men and still have a good time and if a man shows an inkling of liking towards them he is trying to either stalk and rape her or abuse her somehow.
plus in the us there is a sexual wall put up about the idea of human sexuality that keeps both sexes from showing themselves openly this wall does not exist in other countries

I feel your pain sister, South African men are equally lame. You are in a better boat than I, because I cannot even get a working permit in Italy. So embrace your citizenship, go back to Italy, and have some fun. Oh, and think of me, stuck between a bunch of idiots!!

I think it has a lot to do with culture, the way they are raised, and brought up. Maybe there is a lot more emphasis on treating women with respect and how you treat a lady. Things seem to be a lot more old fashioned in places like Italy.

blame it on the feminist movement... when women try to "equate" men and women, u end up with women who say "i don't need u to open my door, i can do it myself!" this causes men to stop doing it, which causes men to lose their "manliness". =T

i think more important than just incorporating the feminist movement is not that men and women are EQUAL.. but it is that men and women have Equal Importance in a relationship! we both have different qualities, traits, and contribute different things to a relationship, and therefore we are both Equally Important. but not EQUAL in terms of Chivalry.... there is an innate understanding that women Tend to Nurture and Emotionally Support their mate, and men Tend to Financially and Physically support their mate. in an ideal world, the man will be Romantic to get a woman to Love and Nurture him... but when women start becoming more masculine, they take away that role and men reacted (badly) by trying to be more Macho. UGH which is not Chivalrous at all.

anyways, i think we need to realize that even though yes, women are completely Able to take on many responsibilites, even many masculine ones such as being breadwinner, etc, it doesn't mean that we can or should Demean them. instead, it is our job to help men understand How to continue to be Chivarlous in this modern society of modern women. we need to nurture and care for them, help them learn what to do, instead of pointing and calling them pigs.

good luck to us all~

I blame feminism. Women have scared men away from that because it might belittle the woman.

But also what is romance? I think flowers are cheesy and don't like PDA but that doesn't mean I don't like romance.

I really think it's the lack of confidence. Americans pay so much attention to what the perfect image is, or should be, and rarely no one thinks that they can be perfect or desirable. other cultures do not seem to have that pressure.

Because there are so many American girls who'll do whatever to get a guy. Guys don't have to work so hard because of all those "girls gone wild" types who'll do anything to get attention. Why buy a cow if you get free milk, right?
