I have a 3 1/2 month old pom. I've had him for over 2wks now. I can't seem to train him to go on the pad to pee/poo. I even bought the spray thats suppose to attract pets to go there, but it seem to work just a couple of times and that was it. I do notice my pup has good memory, after he does go pee/poo somewhere else rather then the pad, he would hide since i usually put him in a box by his pad for 5min or so. and he also knows that if he goes in his carrier, he gets to go out so he would go in his carrier when I'm leaving the house. and when he goes to my parents house, he knows where the food/water is. so I don't know if he's doing it on purpose or what not.. any tips? I always keep an eye on him when I'm home but right when I turn my back to do the dishes, or go in the bathroom.. thats when he goes. I can't take him outside since he haven't had all his shots yet.

My pups vet told me not to take him out anytime right now. I bring him to his pad when he wakes up but he would wait til I'm not looking and he'll slowly walk off and do it a few steps away

Don't use the pads or spray- why would you want the puppy to ever associate peeing with being inside??? Use a complete (I say that because you partially crate train him now) crate training routine.

See my other potty training answers for more, or look up crate training online.

Good luck

I don't understand. A dog can still go outside with out all it's shots, Or at least i don't see why he can't. It's not like he is going to be out there for a long time, and if you keep him away form other dogs their sholdn't be a problem.
I would talk to your vet about that because i paper trained my little dog, and he is now three years old and still goes inside. It is sick. I try so hard to punnish him everytime he does it but he just doesn't get it. I am sooo anit paper traning a dog. The dogs bathroom is outside, not on paper in your house.

Think about it, and talk to your vet

good luck

Try the old school technique: Reward him with a treat when he pees in the right place. Make sure that you reward him enough when he does so he knows that he has done something right. Then scold him when he pees in the wrong place--Im sure you know all this but it worked for me. I had the same problem, but if you are persisent it should work. You could get a professional trainer is all else fails. Good Luck!

If your dog has begun his shots, you can take him outside. In fact, once the puppy hits 8 weeks old I will start taking him out to go potty. You are perfectly safe unless the area is heavily traveled by dogs you don't know.

If you don't find resolution to the problem, contact me and I will send some nice long training directions.

Good luck!
