I got her spayed a few months ago and now she keeps getting urinary track infections and can't control her bladder even if she has just gone out and done her business. We also saw blood in her urine last week. My vet said it could be a thyroid problem but I don't think so.
Thanks!!

We have taken her to the vet repeatedly and spoken with another vet and a vet assistant. She can't be getting the infection for no reason, we have had her on antibiotics 4+ times and it keeps coming back. We are taking her in Saturday but there has to be an better answer than what the vet keeps giving us.
Thanks!!

take her back to the vet and have him do a thorough exam on her. If he won't, go to another vet.

This probably is not at all related to the spay surgery.
First, you have to have her on a full round of antibiotics for 2 weeks. At the end of 2 weeks have the vet check a urine sample.
If your dog is getting recurrent infections there are some things you can do.
You can switch your dog's food. There are some specialty foods made for this exact problem.
You can give your dog cranberry juice or supplements.
Make sure she is getting plenty of water to drink and getting outside to relieve herself frequently.
Your vet should also want to run some bloodwork on the kidneys, an organ function test is what it is called I think.. that can tell if the infection is caused by something higher up in the system.
Keep trying. Sometimes these things have to be investigated to find the source. But, do a round of antibiotics and test right away when done. It sounds like it is just never clearing up all the way.

Sometime the remaining stump of the "uterine horn" doesn't heal properly after surgery (this is VERY rare), and can bleed occasionally. Sometimes the dog's muscularture is compromised by a bad surgery, or one that doesn't heal properly. And sometimes blood from an unhealed stump can leech into the urine when the dog urinates, but the urinary tract and the reproductive system are separate entities...
Generally, we tell folks to trust their vets, but we understand that all vets are not created equal. Go with your gut. If everything inside of you is telling you there is something wrong with your dog and you feel as though your current vet is ignoring your concerns, trust that instinct.
Take your dog to another vet; i.e., get a "second opinion". Chronic UTI's and a loss of bladder control are not things to be trifled with. The second vet can check the surgery sight to see if it's healed properly (good vets can tell by touch alone); he can also do tests to check your dog's thyroid.

I hate to say it, but it's always possible that the vet who did the procedure didn't do it properly. Not a guarantee, but it is possible--if human docs can make mistakes, why can't vets. I would seek out a different vet and get a second opinion. You'll also not feel so awkward if you wish to ask if this is a possiblity as a result of the spaying.
A normal spaying should never have any bad affects for your dog.
Either way, I'd see the vet about this issue.

Spaying does not cause any changes except she cant have puppies and doesn't go into heat.
I would take your dog to another Vet. Get a second diagnose, there is definately something wrong.

My puppy had a UTI after being spayed. Although she had to go through 2 rounds of Amoxicillin it cleared up and she's been fine since.

Chances are that it has nothing to do with the spay procedure but is more than likely a urinary tract infection......
