They dont tell you in the blurb, but XP is essentially a lazy programme
Its like a teenager, all enthusiastic , then deteriorates into a moody lazy zombie
Mine wont start up until 2.00 in the afternoon and it always leaves its space on the hard drive untidy

If you feel comfortable doing so and have the system restore disks that came with your computer, back up all your important files and anything else you want to keep and run the restore disks, this will put your computer back into the state it was when you first bought it. Then run windows update and and apply all critical updates, you will also have to reinstall any other programs that you have installed since you got your computer, I know this is a pain, but it will make your computer run better after wards, and its something that people should do at least once a year or so.

Run an anti-spyware followed by an anti-virus program. Donot forget to update their defination files first. Then, goto Start->Run and typr msconfig. Click the Startup tab and uncheck all programs that you donot require. Reboot your PC. Defragment your hard disk. This is the best you can do to speed up Windows without paying a penny for any software. Good anti-spyware programs are "Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal" and "Spybot - Search & Destroy" and "Windows Defender". These are freely available from the internet.

More than likely, you just need to clean it. It happens sometimes, the soft ware accumulates dust after a while, depending on how long you have had it, where you have it set up, and how often you use it, it could just need to be cleaned. You can do this your self, or you can find a technician to do it for you if your not the jump-up-and-do-it-your-selfer type.

I would update you Anti-Virus and do a scan?
If you don't have any anti spy ware software I would get one they are free so its no problem the best one i know is spybot download this install it, update it, restart and the run it and what ever it finds "Fix" them.
Do a disk clean-up then De-fragment your PC after you have run spybot.
Hope this help
