Who do you think sets this guideline? Three times the monthly salary. So a young man just out of college has been waiting to ask his sweetie to be his bride. He is paying off college expenses, wanting to set up a home, and oops! Have to pay $10,000 for a ring or he will look like a heel! Gotta go into more debt. WRONG!!! Don't fall for the jewelry industry's guideline. Just buy a nice, respectable ring for maybe $2,000 if you can afford it. Then on a later anniversary, surprise her with a nicer one when you can afford it. Good luck!

Depends what you're going for. My engagement ring was around $700, but my wedding ring was about $75. My engagement ring was a sort of more modern ring, with diamonds and a center stone, and all that. But my wedding ring was a puzzle ring, which is a very ancient sort of wedding ring. It is considered a test of fidelity because it falls apart if you take it off. My husband and I have matching puzzle rings.

I too have heard the "3x" your salary theory, but that's a bit old fashioned. If she loves you it won't matter! The price varies so much based on quality, detail, and where you get it. Finsihed jewerly in America is marked up drastically, so you may be better off buying your diamond/s seperatly from a gem distributor and then purchasing a setting. Good luck!

what u can afford...listen, vintage rings are the best i;e;...old ones, hand me downs, estate rings, new rings are a dime a dozen.
If it's all about bling 3k is the amt. here in the states,,,,go to a jewelry place that is a market not a jeweler....you will get more bang for the buck.
