My son has to take these really nasty taking pills for his Cron's disease. They are called Flagyl but it is the generic form. As I was saying they taste very gross, and because of the taste he can't swallow them. Does anyone have any ideas or past experiences that can help me take the taste away. Maybe by putting the pills crushed up in something. PLEASE HELP

naw,

1.) fill mouth with sufficient amount of water

2.) tilt head back

3.) drop pill into mouth so that it will not graze the tongue

4.) as soon as it makes contact with the back of the mouth, swallow.

All the major pharmacy chains now sell flavors to add to liquid medicine, for around $2 per prescription. You could ask your pharmacist if there is a liquid form of flagyl, and if there is have the pharmacist call the doctor to get the RX changed to liquid. Then pay to add the flavoring. If liquid Flagyl is not available, perhaps the pharmacist can sell you some of the flavoring to cruch the pills into.

I am not familiar with the drug, but you might try calling and asking a pharmacist. They generally have a lot of tricks. I have never heard of Flagyl, but make sure it is okay to crush them before you do. Some pills are designed to disolve in the body over time. If you crush them, then your body gets to much at one time. I am not a doctor, but I did that with vitamins (long release) and I got sick.

You have the right idea. Try mixing the pill with a sufficient amount of apple sauce. This is a very common way pills are given to residents in nursing homes. There are practically no meds that can't be mixed in this way.

Best trick of all is to buy sweet baby foods in flavors that your son likes. Chron's is a really rough thing at times. Be creative when it comes to various meds. Juices and sauces are excellent way to get those darn pills down. Best of Luck to your son. .

I hate to say it but I don't think crushing them will help. The metallic taste goes no where. Even drinking with juice does not help. Hopefully he can get past it. I know I could'nt. Sorry.

if they taste nasty then crushing them up will not make it any better. have him drink it with something that tastes good like a soda or juice or something. and dont let it rest on his tongue. or if nothing else dissolve it into his food and hopefully all the other falvors override that one. good luck!

I usually just crush them up and put some already sweetened koolaid with it and mix it up with a couple of drops of water (on a spoon) and have him try that. GOOD LUCK

If it's safe to crush them up, try stirring them into a yoghurt. I used to do this with my tablets and I couldn't taste them at all then.
