The historical, Biblical Gospel invitation is "Repent and Believe" (Mark 1:15, Acts 16:31, etc.).

Why do so many "evangelists" use watered-down invitations such as "Ask Jesus into your heart" or "Let Jesus save you" or "Make a decision for Jesus" when nothing like this is in the Bible?

Basically, because the Biblical method of salvation (called, elect, predestined) is not popular. People like to think they have something to do with their salvation. They need to "help" God. They do not truly believe that it was finished on the cross, nothing more needs to be done. The Calvinistic idea of total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace and perseverance of the saints will not fill churches nor the collection plate, but it is totally Biblical and the true Gospel.

Read Hells best kept secret by Ray Comfort.

People in these days like to be subjective meaning they like what FEELS good, but part of the christian life is NOT only prosperity but pain and suffering too. You take the good with the bad and young people are not being taught this is it any wonder why so many marriages even in christian circles end in divorce and why children are fresh and unruly. I was deeply hurt and wounded by the feel good marshmallow gospel that was laid before me and it is just NOW at 37 years old that I am learning the TRUE gospel.

Thank you for posting this is awesome.

Read Romans 10:13, and Psalm 51, Psalm 51 the first few verses is what the sinners prayer is based on. Mark 16:16.is another good verse and gives the basic requirements for being saved.

Critics will usually brush aside the placement of the Church in choosing the sparkling testomony. They contend that the Holy Spirit presented about the books of the recent testomony to fall into position on their own. they might have us experience that the Church councils that dealt with the canon were not some thing better than bishops getting at the same time to declare "Wow, look at that." The canon stood unchanged till the Protestant Reformation even as Martin Luther threw out the seven Deuterocanonicals when you consider that they contradicted his new doctrines. He also wanted to throw out Hebrews, James, 2 Peter, 2 and three John, Jude, and Revelation. . In Revelation 22:19 the apostle John pronounces, "If absolutely everyone takes faraway from the words of the e-e book of this prophecy, God will solid off his percentage interior the tree of life and contained in the holy city, that would nicely be defined in this e-e book." it is authentic that this verse refers back to the e-e book of Revelation. although, accepted experience tells us that a similar excellent could follow to all of Scripture. surely God would surely not be extremely joyful with us tampering with any area of His note.

It all comes down to interpretation. They take each word and define it, pull out of it what they they think will be a good "Catch Phrase" and run with it. Those are just Bible thumpers. They sound like street corner preachers.Listen to Billy Graham, David Jeremiah, or Charles Stanley sometime you don't get that nonsense. These guys aren't trying to feed you the purple coolaid, just trying to get the message out. And you don't see the 1-800-sendmeyourmoney on the screen either

Eph 2:8-9

8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast.

This is how I present the Gospel of Jesus - it is not a work we can do - it was all done by His sacrifice on the cross. We repent and turn away from sins by grace through faith. We should never water down the Gospel of Jesus.

I've been church hunting for 7 months now (in a new town) and I am finding that churches aren't preaching/teaching ANYTHING from the bible, it's all jokes and anecdotal stories and feel good "how to manage your life in three easy steps" kind of feel, more like a self help seminar than a church. It's very sad state of affairs, this "churchiness" in America. SAD.

You'll never here that at a Catholic mass. There are readings of the Gospel. 1st reading, responsorial psalms, 2nd reading and then the Homily. This is where the priest speaks about the readings.

Preachers are human and sinful too.MY STUDY in the bible lets me know that the roman catholic changed alot of things which are still being taught to day. I don't let the MAN behind the pullpit tell me something without researching my bible to see what it tells me and I ask God for His guidance and wisdom when reading the word. The devil has alot to do with it too, he has humans thinking they are correct in their earthly thoughts when what is correct has already been written for centuries ago. It worked then and now.Yes if you repent for your sins and TRULY BELIEVE IN YOUR REPENTANCE God knows your heart and HE WILL FORGIVE!!!!!!!!!!

Many care more about making the Big Bucks, fancy cars and big churches and do not care for the salvation of lost souls.
