Internal drives referred or hard drive it's installed in your computer tower. An external hard drive usually plugs and with the USB two or a FireWire cable. The only real difference is, an external hard drive is much easier to install! And you can take it with you when you go someplace.

Actually it is pretty straight forward. Internal drives are physically located inside of the computer. External drives are standalone and require a separate power supply, can be USB connected.

Internal drives are INSIDE your computer. External drives are OUTSIDE it. External drives use to be slower, since they have to be pluged to your CPU through a wire.
