I am a girl guide leader and my girls have decided to learn about Mexico. I am looking for the words to a traditional mexican song or lullaby in Spanish to teach to some 5 & 6 year old girls. If you know one please include the lyrics. Thank you!
p.s. they are young so the easier the song the better

I am thinking of the mexican equivalent of "Twinke twinkle little star" or "Itsy Bitsy Spider" nothing too complicated.
La Cucuracha is about cockroaches and the smoking of Marajuana... NOT APPROPRIATE

Here are some GREAT ones. There is one to the tune of 1 little 2 little 3 little indians... but they say uno dos tres amigos... It is easier for little kids. The entire site has good ones for kids though. Check it out. I am sure that it will help you.

I agree with you about La Cucaracha -- it's actually a political song about Pancho Villa.
I like the suggestion of Las Mañanitas or Cielito Lindo. You should be able to find those songs around on the Internet easily enough, but if not, basically any Mexican person will know either of those.

The Mexican Hat Dance - everyone in the world knows that song. Unfortunately I can't sing it to you, maybe that's fortunately I can't sing it to you. Call your local Library, I am quite sure they have it or know where to get a copy. They will LOVE this song, as to this day, I do, and they can "dance" to it. Great exercise, and you can give them all "Mexican sombreros" Have Mexican finger food, etc . Hope you like my idea, Have Fun... PS: its ironic, but as I am typing this response, I hear the song, and I looked up and on the TV - The Gerry Springer is playing the Mexican Hat Dance. I think that is Karma, better take my Idea! LOL

One of our most traditional Mariachi songs is Cielito lindo, which is sung by Plácido Domingo and many other artists (I don't know if there's a version by Eugenia León, she's really great). I send you the first verse and chorus.
CIELITO LINDO
De la Sierra Morena,
Cielito lindo, vienen bajando
Un par de ojitos negros,
Cielito lindo, de contrabando
Coro:
Ay, ay, ay, ay,
Canta y no llores,
Porque cantando se alegran,
Cielito lindo, los corazones
There are a lot of Mexican lullabies and songs for children, but the music of this one will be easier to get.
Hope it helps!
=)

you can look up in the Internet Cri Cri El Grillito Cantor ( Francisco Gavilondo Soler ) he wrote a lot of children´s songs, like el ratón vaquero ( the cowboy mouse ) and pin pon I remember them very vaguely that is why I don´t write them but they are nice and simple for those ages. you know what? I found it go there, it is very complete you can listen to the songs, has tablatures, biography everything
